OLD MAN IN THE MIST
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland • Isle of Skye • Old Man of Storr

Standing in front of the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye feels surreal on any day, but when thick fog rolls in, it turns into a completely different world.

The hike up actually started with fairly clear skies, but by the time we reached the top, the mist had taken over. Photos like this make the location look so quiet and isolated, but the reality during the day is quite different—it’s a massive tourist hotspot. Still, as soon as the fog hides everything around you, that raw, moody Scottish atmosphere takes over.

Honestly, foggy and unpredictable weather will always beat clear blue skies for me. How about you?

SILENCE ON SKYE
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Isle of Skye • Scotland

I usually struggle with minimalistic landscape photography because I’m always looking for dramatic lines and massive scale. But during our first evening on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, this calm scene made it effortless.

The water was completely still, creating a perfect reflection of the rolling green hills with that single boat anchored right in the middle. Sometimes the most rewarding landscape photos aren’t about wild weather or giant mountain peaks—it’s just about finding a quiet, balanced moment.

The Quiraing never looks the same twice. While most people hope for blue skies, the dramatic, foggy days are what truly bring this landscape to life.
Watching the low clouds drift over „The Prison“ and the green ridges around Loch Langaig creates that raw, moody atmosphere the Scottish Highlands are famous for. It’s all about taking in the scale of these massive rock formations and capturing how quickly the weather reshapes the entire landscape.

THE WANDERER’S VIEW

Saxon Switzerland is famous for its dramatic landscapes and iconic peaks that once inspired Caspar David Friedrich’s world-famous painting, „Wanderer above the Sea of Fog“. Most people come to the Elbe Sandstone Mountains for these grand vistas, but macro photography completely changes your perspective on these trails.

Looking closer makes you realize that this region isn’t just about the massive rock formations, but also about the small details you’d usually walk past—like this Small Copper butterfly sitting quietly on a patch of wild daisies. It really makes you appreciate the nature here with a completely different level of awareness.

WHERE THE ROAD ENDS

This photo was taken while we were exploring Staffin and its rugged surrounding coastlines. The weather was doing exactly what it does best in Scotland: wrapping the high cliffs in a thick, low-hanging blanket of mist while the sun tried its best to break through onto the water below.
There is something incredible about driving and walking along these single-track roads here. One minute you are surrounded by nothing but green mountain ridges, and the next, the coast opens up to reveal these quiet, rocky shores.
It’s the kind of moody, dramatic landscape that makes you want to just pull over, turn the engine off, and watch the fog roll in over the Atlantic.

THROUGH THE QUIRAING

If there is one place that completely lives up to the hype, it’s the Isle of Skye. Standing at the top of the Quiraing and looking down at these winding roads, dramatic cliffs, and the low-hanging clouds makes you feel like you stepped straight into another world.

There is something incredibly peaceful about how vast and raw the Highlands are. You can hike for hours in the wind, watch the sheep casually grazing on impossibly steep ridges, and every single turn gives you a completely new perspective. It’s easily one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.

A LAKE FROM ABOVE
📍Germany • Mecklenburg Lake District

These photos were taken during a road trip through the Mecklenburg Lake District. It was peak autumn, and the colors along the shoreline were incredible, especially contrasted with that clear water.

This is just one of more than 1,000 lakes scattered across the region. The ancient, untouched forests surrounding them are so unique that parts of this area are actually protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

It was the perfect morning to get the drone up and capture how the forest meets the water from above.

QUIRAING COMPANION
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland • Isle of Skye • Quiraing

This photo was taken a few years ago during a hiking trip through the Quiraing. The weather was typical for the Highlands—moody, windy, and full of low-hanging mist. We were capturing the dramatic landscape when this local Scottish Blackface sheep decided to step into the frame.

Most of the sheep we encountered had just been freshly shorn and looked less like majestic highland wildlife and more like peeled celery. They definitely didn’t make for great photo subjects. This one was actually shorn too, but compared to the others, it still managed to look passable and keep some of its dignity for the camera. The way it stood there so calmly against the backdrop of the hidden lochs and winding roads below made the whole scenery feel completely still.

These sheep have a fascinating history and are incredibly tough. Developed in the Scottish borderlands centuries ago, the breed became the backbone of the Highland economy during the 18th and 19th centuries. Their unique, thick wool and hardy nature allow them to survive the harsh winters on these exposed mountain ridges year-round.

There is something incredibly peaceful about the deep forests of Southern Norway. We sent the drone up just as a thick layer of fog was rolling over the treetops, completely transforming the landscape into this moody, quiet scene.

It’s moments like these that make you appreciate the raw, untouched wilderness up north. Just endless green pines slowly disappearing into the clouds.

THE WINDING ROAD 🇫🇷 France • Corsica
Corsica is famous for its beaches, but taking a road trip through the island’s mountainous interior is a whole different experience. Driving through these dense pine forests and navigating the endless winding roads feels like stepping into another world.

We just had to pull over at this curve to take in the peaceful scenery and send the drone up. From above, you can really see how the road perfectly wraps around the rugged landscape and the little mountain streams.

WILDFLOWER TRAIL
📍Germany • Allgäu Alps

This photo brings back great memories of a summer trip to the Bavarian mountains. My dad and I were on an epic day hike, traversing the high alpine trails from the Nebelhorn to the Rubihorn. Pausing to look down at the vibrant wildflowers with the low-hanging clouds rolling over the valley was definitely a highlight.

It was a pretty long day on the trails, but catching views like this along the way easily made up for the tired legs. Sometimes a good hike, some moody weather, and great company are all you really need.

HOUSE BY THE COVE
🇭🇷 Croatia • Brač Island • Plaža Puntica

This photo was taken a few years ago, and it was actually the very first time I flew my drone anywhere outside of my own backyard. We had to do some searching to find Plaža Puntica, but the beach was incredibly quiet and beautiful once we got there.
The history of this area is deeply tied to the old fishing villages nearby. For generations, small hidden coves like this one were used by local fishermen to pull up their wooden boats and seek shelter from the unpredictable Adriatic winds.
Finding places like this where you can still escape the crowds and just enjoy the clear turquoise water is what traveling is all about. It was the perfect spot to finally test the drone in the wild.
