A very early cut of a fight scene that I DP’d for the incredibly talented @mc_samout

Sound is crude and a draft, color grading isn’t done yet and yes the soundtrack is from The Dark Knight, but I enjoy it too much not to share.

THANK YOU TO…
@sekai.aj for writing such a fun script
@ethan_hewlett for the insane stunt choreography
@cruzyyyyyyy as ‘The Stallion’
@arthy_clx as Random Goon

Everyone else on the crew of ‘Gaggle’ for such a fun time! by @jserranofilm

To the cast and crew of Modus Operandi: Thank you for your patience so far.

Here’s a clip to haul you over.

Featuring the insane @gus_kellerman

Audio and music obviously not finished— It was nice to be able to edit to/pay an homage to The Boys with this scene.

Here’s another personal favorite, though it does require some context—

Throughout the film you see interview snippets of the character played fantastically by @janinethemachine — Having to wonder who she is until around here in the movie, in which it is revealed that she’s the time traveller’s wife in present time, and the interview is one that was conducted by the Detective’s partner.

@gus_kellerman plays the role of a man who is about to go grave digging to find proof of time travel so well- The acting is subtle and lets the editing of the moment carry the scene, but you can follow the characters’ thought process including idea, shame for the idea, and then a rebuke of that shame in pursuit of the idea within just a few moments. Very fun.

This scene is a personal favorite of mine—

From the same movie, Man who Mastered Time- In which the detective protagonist slowly realizes that the time traveller is telling the truth about who he is, and decides he wants to use the time traveller to discover how to travel to the past and ‘recover’ it.

This scene on its own already has some of my favorite dialogue in the film, and @gus_kellerman as well as @benjibellassai elevate it with their performance, to the point where I remember some clapping from crew members after takes with how well they were playing off each other.

On a cinematography level, I’ve always said that it’s not about individual shots but rather how they function together, and although that’s partly a cope for the fact I haven’t gotten the opportunity to do extremely visually charged shots as of yet, I think this scene expresses what I mean perfectly. The individual shots, entirely simple in solitude, make for something much different and well-paced when stitched together.

Not to mention, it’s the first scene I ever directed in partly Spanish, something I hope to do more and more. Shoutout @owen___k for sound.

Since my most recent piece of narrative work is taking a boatload-amount of time (past me thought it’d be a funny prank on current me to make a feature film and edit it) I thought I’d take a look at previous work here.

This is a lot of peoples favorite scene in the film and editing it for instagram I certainly see why— Implied backstory, nice pacing, grand delivery from the actors despite some admittedly mid dialogue on my part. I always had the intention to evoke my best Spielberg impression throughout this film, but the moment I realized I’d done a decent job was when talking to @pillowtalksounds about the score. Initially we went for a Twin Peaks-esque sound for this scene, full snapping and a tune that almost made the color grading feel greener than it actually was, but that quickly felt like the wrong move for the scene. The movie was made for a darkly adventurous tone/palette, the score had to echo that too.

Thanks to the brilliant actors in this scene @gus_kellerman and @thedashingfool

And of course the lighting by @evanhaackedp helps a ton.
