Inspired by Kathleen Jamie's *Cairn*, I set out to find some of Lundy's cairns.

Historic England records several on the island, including a number on Acland Moor. Surely finding a pile of stones couldn't be that difficult?

Could it?

I tried to find my bearings using the Historic England map. I came across some rocks. Was this the cairn I was looking for?

I'm still not sure.

But I did find a lovely place to sit: a little stonecrop garden growing amongst the rocks, with a view across the landscape.

And then there were the lambs.

They're currently enjoying some unexpected extra time on Lundy because the Beach Road has made it impossible to ship them off the island.

It made me think about my own time here.

I was supposed to leave in the spring. Instead, plans changed, and I'm still here, living what feels like borrowed time on the island.

Perhaps that's what I like about cairns. They mark the landscape, but they also make us stop and think about the people who were here before us—and the people who will come after us.

I still don't know whether I found the cairn.

But I found a place to stop.

And sometimes that's enough.

Post swim, everyone’s left me as I’ve stayed on the jetty. Passing time before my evening meal invite. Reading a crime novel set exactly on this island. Seals are mating in the sea the water is flat calm - a gift of an evening. And I got an amazing meal with fun company. Thanks to three ladies staying in Bramble villas West.
