This picture is at the 50mile mark at the top of Columbine - 12,500’. Totally in the hurt locker. I was dizzy, stumbling, and mentally low. I lost 200 spots in the 10miles to the top of this climb. Totally gassed.

That said, I look back fondly and proudly at this moment because of the sense of satisfaction that comes from doing hard things. Winning against yourself and not others. Set the challenge. Do the work. Manage pain, feelings of failure, and discomfort.

As I descended from here my energy returned and I gained back 100 of those spots. I suffered a ton during the 50 miles back to the finish line and cried spontaneously as I crossed the finish line. The feelings that flooded over me were overwhelming. I can’t wait to do it again.

Leadville. What an experience. Literally impossible to describe. The highest of highs and the lowest of low.

$5000 raised for Livestrong and those living with cancer

10hrs 48mins race time

165km ridden

3500m climbed

7800 calories burned

1 bucket Tears cried spontaneously at the finish line.

Once again, I cannot thank all of those that have touched this adventure in someway and helped make it happen. You know who you are. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. 🙏

Some advice from a very moving speech from the founders of the Leadville Race. This is the 30th anniversary of the hardest 1 day mtb event in the world.

“You didn’t get here by yourself”

“No excuses….Don’t be a cry baby”

“You are part of our family.”

“It’s about the buckle.”

I have made it to Leadville. Impressed by the scale of the event already. Went out and rode the first and smallest climb yesterday. While it is primarily double track it is challenging. Heart rate was high relative to perceived effort. First night’s sleep at altitude was fitful. Not feeling great this morning but I feel that the excitement and energy of the event will change that. Race day tomorrow.

A major shoutout to @shimanomtb who went above and beyond to help me with contaminated rotor problem. Went for advice and walked away with new pads and rotor.

Thanks to everyone that has helped get me here. All of you that donated to @livestrong - thank you 🙏. Especially my wife, @christinesimpsonart for supporting my crazy ideas.

FUNDRAISING UPDATE

With all of the craziness in the world, I have neglected to post an update these last few weeks.

Fundraising goal was exceeded. We reached $4815 in support of cancer. A major thank you to everyone that has and continues to support me.

This team jersey arrived a couple of weeks ago, making me official part of Team Livestrong. It is just over a week until I depart for Leadville, Colorado.

Special thank you to @mitch.skiing.cycling for the support with @leatt_mtb , @julbocanada , and @maxxistires .

FUNDRAISING UPDATE

GOAL EXCEEDED🙏🙏

Thank you to everyone who donated or supported me in non monetary ways in raising money for the @livestrong Foundation and their mission to help those affected by cancer - sufferers, survivors, and care givers.

I will now join a team of 16 other Livestrong supporters in Colorado this August to suffer through the 100 mile @ltraceseries Leadville Trail 100.

Today was my second Leadville specific training ride. It pales in comparison to the effort that I will need to put in, but hopefully these weekly 3 hour pushes will set me up well to complete the event.

If you would still like to donate to this very worthy cause you will find the link in my bio or direct message me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Special thanks to:

FUNDRAISING UPDATE

With the goal almost met for @ltraceseries with @teamlivestrong in support of those living with cancer it is time to get serious.

-Flights are booked to Colorado.
-Initiated a more strategic preparation for the race. Once a week I will get out for a 3+ hour ride composed of lots of vertical gain and double track. Conditions that will simulate the track at Leadville.

Above are some scenes from today’s ride. The beauty of living here is that I rode this from my own driveway.

Thank you to @lakesidebikeco for the mid ride tuneup and fuel up. taken in Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia by @jsimmerski

Well, my legs held up and the rain stayed away for the most part. I rode conservatively and made it for 10.5 hours. My goal was 9 hours as that is my goal time for Leadville. Super stoked and a little tired.

A big thank you to @lakesidebikeco for the amazing pre-race tune. The bike worked flawlessly. Cheers boys! Also, my man @kelly_kokolski for the nutrition advice and ability to keep me stoked. And finally my wife for being there at the finish line. A loving smiling face was needed. taken in Golden, British Columbia by @jsimmerski

Not everyone gets to choose the challenges they must endure. Cancer seems to be stalking all of us.

I am in the final weeks of fundraising in support of the Livestrong Foundation and their mission to support those living with this devastating disease.

If I reach the goal I will earn the right to take on my MISOGI of the Leadville Trail 100. A 100 mile mountain bike race in the high Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Each mile of suffering is to honour those who suffer with the disease.

If you would like to donate the link is in my bio.

Thank you 🙏
