TIME FOR LIFT OFF! 🚀

After settling in at the All In Hotel, we headed towards Meowolf's Convergeance Station for a little out of this stratosphere fun 😵‍💫👽

We traveled through all the immersive worlds and I even got some new ideas for @callmemotherexperience. Its not work if youre having fun, right??

(Note: We already went to the Houston location and this one is even bigger. If you like the fantastical and weird, or just some time to feel like a kid again, you should definitely hit it up. Buy tickets an advance because the day of tickets can be a little pricey. If you have little, hold onto them. There are so many great places to hide. )

15+ hours of driving for 15 years of marriage 🥂

To celebrate our 15th anniversary (May 28) we took on the open road and headed to Colorado. I haven't laughed this much in years. I often call my time with @jsmoothink "hanging with my boyfriend" because husbands have to be responsible and worry about mortgages, but being alone with him is a chance to throw all that worry away. I get to laugh far too loudly, sing and not consider the key, have pillow fights and eat weird food. 15 years for me is another celebrate that I found a person who makes the world feel like home. Im safe in his arms, even in a wide open plain. Thank you for being the Nate Dogg to my Warren G in every rendition of Regulators. We get one life and I never regret getting to spend it with my best friend. 💕 🥰😍

Here's to many more miles, many more trips, and many more posts (because we had fun and y'all are gonna get all these pictures lol)

I recently had the honor and privilege to be part of a community exhibit where I was commissioned to create work for my lovely and talented wife’s @livelifedeep “_as myth” exhibit. Now thru April 14 my work and work of other amazing artists can be seen in the rotunda of City Hall in @downtownhouston

Here's a little more about the project:

The latest installation in the Moody Project Wall series, "_____ as Myth," led by Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton, offers a community-centered exhibition that explores mythology as a catalyst for self-discovery and social commentary. Taking inspiration from Mouton’s memoir Black Chameleon, the artwork on view is a result of students and local artists investigating how modern-day mythology can explain the nuances of our everyday experiences.

Through her residency at Rice University’s Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning (CERCL), Mouton led students through community workshops to write new myths based on their own experiences. Those stories then became source material for local and regional artists to create the artworks that comprise the exhibition, "______ as Myth." Mouton's book, Black Chameleon, explains the Black American Women’s experience through exploring idioms like “How we got eyes in the back of our heads” and examining colloquial figures like Boo Boo the Fool. The student's work likewise reflects a broad investigation into lived experiences but with a much wider range of personal histories.

"The diversity of voices and backgrounds makes the storytelling richer," said Mouton. "It shows we're all capable of filling in the gaps of our own mythology."

This installation is made possible by @cerclrice Rice University’s Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning (CERCL), with support from the Moody Center for the Arts.

I just found out that the storybook opera I wrote, is being produced at multiple locations this month!

Let me tell you why this project is so special. When @hougrandopera approached me to turn one of the myths from my upcoming memoir, Black Chameleon (@henryholtbooks , 2023) into an experience for young children, I was over the moon.

I worked hard to craft a story if inclusion and intent around body representation and the need for diversity. I wanted children to know that they were perfect however they were made. But we needed an image.
#HGOco had the great idea to create a coloring book to go along with the performance. When they asked me who I wanted to collaborate with, I knew this was the moment I could finally collaborate with the love of my life @jsmoothink ! (I told y'all he was talented!)

So this month, children can grab a copy of the coloring book and hear the story of Lula at @childrensmuseumhouston, @levyparkhouston and #childrensdiscoverycenter in Fort Bend! I'm so excited!!!!
