Master of Me by Keke Palmer 🤍✨

Many close to me know how much I’ve looked up to & have been inspired by Keke Palmer! I’ve always found her to be so free spirited, loving and authentic. From Akeelah and the Bee to True Jackson VP to now being the youngest black female show host, Keke has always been legendary in my eyes. 💐

When she released her first book, I Don’t Belong to You at the age of 21, it was a no brainer that I’d purchase and dive into the mindset and guidance she provided. One of my favorite chapters from the book is Let it Flow: Find Your Passion. I was at a point of figuring out who I was, how I was going to pursue my dreams and how to navigate my 20s & this book was the perfect amount of inspiration. 🥹✨

Now, entering my 30s, reading Master of Me has opened a whole new perspective of life. Keke’s experiences on self-worth, friendships, motherhood, business and staying committed to your purpose are all significant in this transformative phase of my life.

My favorite chapter is “Ain’t That ‘Bout a B*tch!” & it covers how much others may attempt to diminish your light due to the power you hold within yourself, how comparisons steal the power of individuality and even, how one may absorb the insecurities of others which results in failure to see your own worth! 🤏🏾✨

I’ve always had the upmost respect for Keke as a person and her commitment to her purpose! After reading this, I think it just continues to go up from there. From the way she carries herself, how authentic, vulnerable and humble she remains despite what life throws at her, I mean… she’s literally a legend of my generation and deserves it all. Talk show host, youngest black female host on SNL, podcast, tv shows, movies, singer, author, mother… literally Ms. Keep a Job! How could you not love and respect her?

This book had me SHAKING IN MY BOOTS! 🫣😭 SA Cosby has immediately been added to my list of favorite authors. His storytelling is beyond my wildest dreams. I loved EVERYTHING about this book. I’m so eager to read the rest of his collection! I need a screen adaptation EXPEDITIOUSLY ❗️

The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins 💚💡

The Let Them Theory is an eye opener read for those who may need insight on how to navigate relationships, personal decision making and even intuition.
•
Mel does an amazing job on diving into how we, as individuals, can give our power away by remaining in places or relationships beyond our own comfort/boundaries. Her ability to provide concrete examples in work, relationships, personal boundaries and even how this can be reflective in parenting is genius.
•
My favorite chapters are:
Ch. 5: Let Them Think Bad Thoughts About You
Ch. 7: When Adults Throw Tantrums
Ch. 15: Unlock the Power of Your Influence
Ch. 18: Let Them Show You Who They Are

The biggest take I got from this read is that we have the choice of choosing to accept who people are when they reveal it and it’s OK to not want to meet them where they are and move on! This creates room for those experiences and relationships that provide reciprocity and the best interactions.

Set Boundaries, Find Peace is an insightful and practical guide that teaches how to establish healthy boundaries in EVERY area of life. Through relatable examples, therapeutic wisdom, and action-forward strategies, Tawwab explains that boundaries are not about controlling others—they are about communicating your needs, protecting your well-being, and creating healthier relationships.

I know most self-help books can become repetitive and boring. But one of my favorite takes from this read was how she breaks down complex relationship dynamics, (platonic, intimate, business and familial) in an easy approach. This helped me to identify where I may be overextending myself, people-pleasing, avoiding difficult conversations, or tolerating behaviors that negatively impact my mental and emotional health.
I’ve learned that it’s okay for me to challenge myself and not only depend on that from external perspectives. Being able to recognize that resentment, burnout, and frustration often stem from boundaries that were never established or enforced had me reevaluating my life and those around me. Rather than encouraging guilt or blame, Nedra provided insight on how to communicate directly, confidently, and compassionately.
Overall, I gained a newfound understanding that boundaries are an act of self-respect, not selfishness. By learning to say no, express needs clearly, and maintain consistent limits, I can create more fulfilling relationships and experience greater peace in my life.

The Dillinger Series Book 6: Mia by Kimberly Brown 🇫🇷🌴

Mia is a heartfelt, emotionally rich, and the last addition to the Dillinger series. 🥹💜
Mia’s story was one that I was highly anticipating but it was a tough read. Her story is one of strength, trauma and resilience. It was beautiful to see underneath the tough shell she has in the other books.
And Titan... whew. 😮‍💨 I loved Titan the moment he was introduced earlier in the series. Watching this man love out loud, embrace vulnerability, and wear his heart on his sleeve had me smiling the entire book. His character growth was everything. The emotional maturity? The patience? The reassurance? I love to see it.🥹
One thing I didn’t expect to love as much as I did was the relationship between Titan and Steel. Their bond developed so naturally, and seeing that level of trust, loyalty, and brotherhood added another layer to an already emotional story. Even more was shown of his friendship with Quaid and Jaeda. I loved it all. The action had me on the edge of my seat, especially everything that unfolded in Paris. Then watching both families come together in the end? That sense of unity, protection, and unconditional love was so heartwarming.

This series has been such a beautiful journey because every couple has loved differently. No relationship feels recycled, and every story has had its own heart, its own healing, and its own lesson. That’s what keeps me coming back.
Mia gave me action, vulnerability, family, healing, and a love story that was definitely more relatable, yet unique in its own way.🤍✨

It seems like the perfect solution for Steel to finally have the family he’s always wanted—until everything begins to unravel and his life takes a devastating turn.

I almost DNF this book! 🙈 I struggled with the chemistry between Steel and Neha, particularly due to Neha’s attitude and resistance to allowing Steel to fully embrace his role, however, Steel’s emotional journey kept me invested. (Steel popping up at the school was my favorite 😭) His frustrations were understandable, and there were moments when I wished he had stood his ground a little longer. 🙄Neha is definitely my least favorite FMC in the series. I like her cousin Dinah more!
One thing that’s consistent across all storylines is the unwavering bond within the Dillinger family. The Dillingers are fiercely loyal and protective of one another, and their family dynamic remains one of the series’ greatest strengths. I LOVEEEEE the relationship between Steel and Jaeda. 🥹💚 Their connection showcased a softer, more vulnerable side of Steel that was hidden in the other books, adding depth to his character beyond the hardened fighter persona.

Rating: 8/10 🌟

Jaeda is a heartfelt and refreshing addition to The Dillinger Chronicles, centering on the quietest Dillinger sibling, Jaeda. Jaeda’s story focuses heavily on emotional intimacy, personal growth, and the development of a healthy relationship. Used to operating behind the scenes as the family’s IT genius and believing love simply isn’t meant for her, Jaeda finds her world turned upside down when a cybersecurity breach introduces her to the intelligent and persistent Quaid Michaels.

Jaeda’s story was long overdue, and it was worth the wait. From the opening scene, I was completely hooked and eager to dive into her story. I love how the story highlighted the lengths women often have to go to protect themselves, even when simply rejecting a man. 🙄
I loved the dynamic between Jaeda, her brothers, and Quaid. Her brothers were as protective as ever, but Quaid held his own, making every interaction entertaining—from them snatching him up to his appearance with Titan at Deuce’s club. 🔥 The chemistry was undeniable!
I enjoyed learning more about Jaeda’s relationships with Shar and Mia. Most of all, I was happy to see her get the happy ending she deserved while finding her voice and learning to stand up for herself with her siblings. Definitely one of my favorites in the series.

Intrigued by Danger by Intrigued by Danger is the final installment in the series, following Declan Danger as his 20-year relationship with Winter unravels after she suggests opening their relationship. What starts as heartbreak turns into a journey of self-discovery when he meets the confident and captivating Mistress Elle.

This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster. Declan started off as my least favorite brother because of how he treated Dymon, but once the story unfolded, I was completely hooked. 😭 The spice? Absolutely unmatched. 🌶️🤭 My jaw stayed on the floor the entire time.
Winter was one of the most selfish and vindictive characters I’ve ever read, so seeing Declan find Elle felt deserved. Their chemistry was intense from the start, and Elle’s confidence, emotional intelligence, and dominance balanced him perfectly. She brought out a completely different side of Declan, while also becoming one of the most unforgettable heroines in the series. Watching her break down emotionally was heartbreaking. 🥺

When it came to Diesel Danger, I just knew I would be head over heels about him due to how he was in Dymon’s book, I was wrong! 😭 His arrogance pissed me off so bad, it was so unattractive to the point my nose was scrunched up, like, who you feeling like? He ran a very strict program ❗️However, I will say due to his lifestyle and upbringing as a child, Grey gave him a taste of his own medicine which made him fold like a lawn chair. 😭🤭 The BDSM exposure was high in this one. 🌶️ Diesel turn her ass every way and then some! This was an easy and quick read amongst the 3 books… but I will say, Diesel may be my least favorite Danger brother. 🫠

This romance leans heavily into dominant/submissive themes and billionaire romance tropes while still centering emotional intimacy and Black love.

I haven’t been kicking and screaming for a couple in a long time. 🤭 I loved everything about this read. I finished this in a day ❗️
What begins as tension-filled banter and resistance quickly turns into an addictive push-and-pull relationship filled with passion, vulnerability, and emotional healing. Quinci’s bold personality challenges Dymon in ways no one else ever has, forcing him to confront family trauma (I was rooting so hard for Quinci at the family dinner), control issues, and his fear of love. This was suchhhhh a spicy read, I’ll be keeping my own bowl of oranges now but nonetheless, welcoming me into the world of BSDM through reading. Princess and Mr. Dymon, Whew! 🌶️( & according to the other two books, I see why most consider Dymon ‘vanilla’ 🤭). I absolutely love Quinic, she’s definitely one of my favorite FMC. This book was such a great introduction into the series and Endiya Carter’s catalog bc I was not familiar with her pen!

When Romi Mitchell, a pregnant woman facing escalating threats and danger, turns to Smoke for help, an unexpected connection begins to form between them. What starts as a relationship built on protection and necessity gradually develops into a heartfelt romance rooted in trust, loyalty, and family.

This friends-to-lovers story was beautifully executed. I loved their banter and how naturally Smoke’s feelings for Romi developed. 🥹 He didn’t love her despite her circumstances, nor did he approach her struggles with a savior complex. Instead, he offered consistent support, remained steadfast in her corner, and demonstrated what it means to protect, provide, and solve problems. 👌🏾 As far as intimacy goes, the kitchen counter scene, honeyyyyy 🙈🙃.
Romi’s resilience and strength in the face of adversity was admirable. Her story highlighted how everyone has a limit, and sometimes reaching that breaking point becomes the catalyst for meaningful change. Watching her reclaim control of her life made her journey all the more impactful.
I was head over heels how Romi and her sister, Renay, were welcomed into the sisterhood shared by Salima, Sharina, Mia, and Jaeda. Their dynamic added warmth and levity to the story and made me feel like I was reading about Capri, Blair, Zoya and the girls.
Overall, this was my favorite installment of the series so far. The emotional depth, character development, and strong interpersonal relationships made it an especially satisfying read.

The Dillinger Series Book 2: Maceo by Kimberly Brown 💰💍 (song: ‘09 Bonnie and Clyde)

The novel centers on Maceo Dillinger, the second eldest son of the Dillinger family, and his fiercely loyal girlfriend, Sharina Gladden aka Shar aka Salmia’s best friend. While Maceo is already accustomed to living in a dangerous world, his decision to secretly take on unauthorized missions puts both his relationship and his family at risk. As Duece’s right hand man, this causes a lot of conflict and a rise of vulnerability with the siblings.

Compared to Deuce, Maceo was more a more playful read. Maceo and Shar were such a fun and engaging couple. His relationship with her family, her family’s love of her was on full display, and I thoroughly enjoyed how much more was revealed about her upbringing w/ Salima. I loved the banter and the immediate pull between Shar & Maceo. This was one of those, when you know, you know tropes, no second guessing and an all gas no breaks kind of relationship. The plot was similar to Deuce and Salima’s story which was a little disappointing. I do wish for more action in the story’s. It’s becoming less interesting, I understand the build up of everyone individually but there’s always just one big action scene. Hopefully there more action in Smoke’s book!
