The difference between working out and training?

Working out is random. Hitting a session you found online and hoping for the best. It’ll make you tired, but not necessarily better.
Training is intentional. It’s a structured journey where every session is a purposeful step towards a specific goal.

That’s what JST Athlete is. We provide the framework for your entire year with our Climb → Claw → Fight methodology, helping you build your base, sharpen your skills, and peak for competitions like the Open. It’s a clear, year-round plan that the entire community is on.

Stop leaving your progress to chance. Ready to start training with purpose?

Don’t take our word for it. The only thing that matters is proof.

Our proof isn’t in flashy marketing; it’s on the competition floor and in the daily wins of our athletes.

- It’s Alanis-Sky Akin, who was terrified of Ring Muscle-Ups, nailing all 21 of them without a single fail at Strength In Depth.
- It’s Rob McGregor taking 2nd place at South West Regionals after working his way back from a back injury and a year with no competitions.
- It’s seeing the journey of Jennifer Muir, from competing in her first competition to qualifying for the CrossFit Games.
- It’s seeing the PB’s rain in everytime we hit a retest.
These aren’t just stories; they’re the outcome of consistent graft guided by a structured plan. Real athletes, getting real results.

The one thing a spreadsheet can’t give you.

𝗔 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺.

A program gives you the ‘what’. But the ‘why’ – the motivation to show up on the tough days, the shared celebration in the wins – that comes from the people alongside you.

That’s what we build here. It’s a coach like Huw telling Alicia Tetley she “deserved to be there” when imposter syndrome was screaming that she didn’t. It’s the game plan from Fraser that helps Amir Khan climb the leaderboard, or the training crew that gives Meg Turpin the confidence to push harder every single day.

It’s coaches who are in the trenches with you and a global community that celebrates your PBs as if they were their own.

This is what we’re about. It’s 𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗧. It’s 𝗚𝗥𝗨𝗡𝗧. It’s 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬. It’s 𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗡.

This is more than a program. It’s a team. Ready to find your people? Tap the link in our bio. by @jst_compete

Everyone would ask, "What's going on in Wigan?"

Back in 2015 it was a Saturday Compete class at CrossFit JST in Wigan. The workout went up on the whiteboard, got briefed, and everyone trained together.

Word got round. People saw the levels being put down every weekend and wanted in. By 2020 it was Super Saturdays: 23 host gyms across 7 countries, with 400+ athletes doing the same workout.

It grew into regionals and training days, and the simple Saturday got lost along the way.

That Saturday was always the bit that mattered. A local gym, easy to get to, people around you pushing the pace. When the person next to you hits a lift you’ve been chasing, you start believing it’s yours too. Then you go home and enjoy your weekend.

So we’re taking it back to how it started. Denis has been with us since that Wigan floor in 2015, first as an athlete and now as head coach at CrossFit Wigan. His take: “Super casual. The usual, big lifting, 1–2 workouts. Just people getting together to train in a group environment.”

First one’s Saturday 7 November, 11am at CrossFit Wigan. DM us if you’re coming. by @jst_compete

YOU DON’T NEED TO TRAIN MORE. YOU MIGHT NEED TO TRAIN BETTER. 👊

Ever feel like you’re putting the work in but not getting the results you want?

Maybe your lifts have stalled.
Maybe your engine isn’t improving.
Maybe you’re working hard every session but aren’t sure if you’re actually progressing.

That’s where individual coaching makes the difference.

At JST CrossFit, coaching isn’t just about telling you what workout is on the board.

It’s about understanding YOU.

🏋️ Your strengths and weaknesses
📈 Your goals and how to achieve them
🎯 Your movement quality and technique
⚡ Your pacing, intensity and performance
🧠 Your progress from one session to the next

Because doing a workout and training with purpose aren’t always the same thing.

The goal isn’t just to work harder. It’s to get better.

👇 LET’S TALK…

What’s ONE thing you’d love to improve in your training right now?

Your strength? Your fitness? Your technique? Your confidence?

Drop it in the comments. 👇

Marbella Champs 2026. Done ✅

Three athletes, three completely different roads to that competition floor this weekend. One spent 12 months closing the fitness gaps that stood between him and his first ever big stage. One scraped a backfill spot by the skin of his teeth and fought his way to the final. One didn’t even know she was competing until the day before the event, and still walked out like she’d done it a hundred times.

Different starting points, same result: three athletes who left Marbella with more belief in themselves than they arrived with.

So proud of Ollie, Ben and Izzy this weekend. Swipe through for their stories

Ollie and I have been working together for just about 12 months by the time Marb’s rolled around. One of his main goals was to get to compete at those big flashy comp’s like you see on insta gram so we knew exactly what to do.

We spent a long and hard multitude of weeks hammering the fitness hole he had in his game. Plenty of simple and brutal intervals, sessions and workouts and weeks and weeks of suffering but they all got him to a point where he could go into the qualifiers with confidence.

3 Weeks and lots of help with videoing workouts later, he had qualified! And we began prep for the weekend itself.

A new experience for Ol and a fun one at that. He was able to “Do things I never have done before’ and actually “feel fit” is the way he put it in his words!

Come the weekend the nerves started to come along but who are we kidding it was his first time competing in a competition of this style and magnitude! He deserved to be nervous.

Throughout the weekend there was plenty of places to learn from. Going unbroken when we had a perfect strategy just to name one but I’m not counting… And also plenty of win’s… walking out onto a competition floor with confidence in his own ability and executing on that.

But all in all it was a success, 3 Days of competing, a whole load of experience later and we’re back in the gym 1 week on getting ready for what’s to come next.

Douglas put this in the community group and blew our minds!

The training piece was…
For Time:
200ft (8x25ft) Handstand Walk

Rest 1:30 After 200ft

3:00 AMRAP
Kipping Handstand Push Ups

He’s an ex-gymnast, gymnastic coach and handstand work is his thing, it’s years of doing one skill properly, long before CrossFit got hold of him.

His top tips for speeding up your handstand walks are:
- Keep a super solid handstand foundation that doesn’t leak any energy.
- Straight arms pushing the floor away.
- Keep the head neutral.

Most athletes treat handstand walking as something to get through in a workout; he treats it as something to race, and there’s a lesson in that for anyone who’s slow on their hands.

Send this to someone who thinks their handstand walk is quick. by @jst_compete

Coaching isn’t always about doing more.

Sometimes it’s just helping someone realise they’re doing well and that a few days away isn’t going to undo everything they’ve worked for.

Really proud of this one. Not because of anything she’s done in the gym, but because she’s starting to see that progress and actually enjoying your life can happen at the same time.

That’s a big win in my book 🤝

Want the best coaching ever? 😂

We had athletes competing all o’er the place this weekend.

Ben and Mike and team won their the Mixed Elite Category at Turf Games by a single point. Mike hit a lift at 152.5kg with 30 seconds on the clock, 2.5kg above Mike’s max clean. His line afterwards, get the team chasing every kilo, rep and second, because that’s where one point comes from.

Lucy went into an in-house comp at CrossFit Leeds after the top complex at 85kg. Got it, equal PB clean, no comp-specific prep. That’s what turning up every week looks like.

Justas was ill all week, got on the start line anyway and went 1:04 in Hyrox Gdansk doubles pro, chasing 65.

Different comps, different levels, chasing the best they can be.
