Joining half of MN in posting the incredible display of Aurora Borealis. I’ve seen the northern lights dozens of times but never quite like this. Also, sorry for the repost, I didn’t realize my color and saturation attempt on the timelapse also saturated the photos. He they are with only what came out on my phone by @jstigen

I am so very looking forward to a show that was just announced for Joshua Stigen and I. We are playing in Alma, WI at River Bend Theatre. It is near Waseca.

It has been an excellent season for riding and specifically commuting on a motorcycle!

This morning however I had one of those close call moments that many bikers have experienced at some point. There was a line of cars stopping where there is not normally a slow down and the car behind me didn’t see the slow down until it was too late and had to make an evasive maneuver. I heard tires screeching behind, then beside me as the old Corolla bumper narrowly missed me as I was sitting still.

I wouldn’t normally share a story like this, but I actually wanted to raise awareness around a new MN law that was signed this summer that will take effect in July of 2025. It will be legal for motorcycles to Lane Filter in traffic. This means as traffic slows motorcycles will be allowed to ride between vehicles and “split” the lanes of traffic. MN is the 6th state to pass such a law in recent recent years. One of the driving reasons for this law is to help prevent serious injury in accidents just like the one I could have been in this morning. Getting sandwiched between two cars or trucks is not good way to start the day in a car, but it could be deadly on a motorcycle. Riding in between the lanes of traffic would keep motorcycles out of these situations.

Riders, start sharing the news about this new law with our caged friends. The earlier we talk about it, the more we can raise awareness around how to watch for motorcyclists. The less we surprise drivers, the less we will have to experience the MN “nice” 🙄😂

Anyway, I’m grateful that I’m not a Corolla hood ornament this morning. If you would like to read up on the law you can find out more here in section e and f
