My entry for the "why they matter" contest by @nerdgasm6 #nerdgasm4k

The Flash (Barry Allan)- this character, when introduced, set the principle and gold standard for how a comic book speedster should be portrayed. Throughout his long history, Barry Allan has gone through tremendous hardships and has accomplished feats that the rest of comics could never achieve. Not only that, but as shown in the CW flash show, Barry doesn't hold super strong grudges against his foes, occasionally teaming up with them to fight a larger threat.

Batman (Bruce Wayne)- Batman was one of the first DC supers to be written. He makes his mark by having billions of dollars, and though he has almost unspendable wealth, he chooses to spend his money on things like; fixing the city and rehabbing criminals. Unlike lex luthor, who spends his wealth on evil. Batman also shows the best example of having every reason to be a villain, but still being a hero because he cares.

Superman (Clark Kent)- Superman was the first DC hero, he is the blueprint for all heroes to come after him. Not only is Superman the dedicated absolute beacon of hope in the DC universe, he is also one of the most powerful characters. He represents an immigrant migrating from a different place to somewhere strange. He is all powerful, almost godlike, but he chooses to help because that's what he feels is right.
