With a combined 22 years of experience in luxury residential design, and an additional 22 years designing commercial environments, our team brings a deep understanding of what it takes to deliver successful projects across residential, workplace, hospitality, and multi-family sectors.
.
I’m often asked whether I prefer residential or commercial design. The truth is, I genuinely love both. Each offers something uniquely fulfilling. Residential work allows us to create deeply personal, intimate spaces for our clients, while commercial design gives us the opportunity to elevate the daily experience of many people at once.
.
Although our studio has been quietly designing boutique commercial spaces for the past few years, we’re finally excited to share more of what we’ve been working on. Enjoy this sneak peek of a private investment firm’s newly completed offices; the transformation is so striking, the before-and-afters might have you questioning whether it’s even the same space.
.
We’re opening a select number of boutique commercial project slots for 2026. If you’re interested in partnering with us, please reach out through the inquiry form on our website.

I’m more of a work hard to work hard kind of girl; call it a learned trait from my early career. But. Last week I said yes to an invitation to join a group of inspiring women to celebrate our business partnerships. We headed to @pippinhillfarm , a winery known for its incredible views, wine, and food. It had been a while (I think my 14 year old was 2) since I had visited so it was about time I went back.

Each person who sat at our table is an incredibly hard-working individual whom I respect. We got to know each other better through laughter, food and a little wine and I think it’s a day we all needed.

We ended at @merriemillfarmandvineyard (an incredible property) before coming back to our regularly scheduled programs. Thank you @fergusonhomeofficial for pouring into us and for a truly FUN day! taken in Charlottesville, Virginia by @jtwdesignllc

Soon after moving back to Richmond, around 2016 I was introduced to @governorssalvage by my sister @shannarawlykdesign and immediately fell in love with the store. Jeff Thomas, the owner, had taken over his father’s business many years prior and was cataloging an incredible amount of architectural and vintage items and antiques to make it easier for customers to find. The inventory was and still is incredible.

I visited in search of a vintage sink for our “little house” to serve as a place for our kids to wash their sticky hands after eating s’mores. I also wanted a light fixture for the front that would have an industrial and not overly barn-like feel. He knew exactly where to go and exactly what I wanted.

Almost like picking a needle out of a haystack the two most perfect pieces emerged. He then helped me by making a frame for the sink and the perfect bracket for the light to hang in place. These pieces have become bits of memories harkening back to my grandparents’ home in Catawba, Va. Something about the raw metal felt right.

I learned from my sister that Jeff has passed away last week. He battled Glioblastoma for several months, a thief that has robbed my husband’s family as well. While I haven’t visited the store in some time, my memories are warm and I have a deep sadness for his family and the Governor’s crew. by @jtwdesignllc

I was first introduced to this room eight years ago. We had been hired to design the kitchen, second floor bathrooms and laundry alongside @kdwhome . It was the first phase of a multi-year, historic renovation for this 1858 home. What a dream, right?
That day, even though the plan was to design the salon in a later phase, I began dreaming of what this room would look like.
Fast forward to 2022 when we had the opportunity to bring those dreams to reality. This room is still one of my favorites we’ve designed to date.
Our client had loved the idea of using a mural. I knew I wanted it to be an original painting, not paneled. Panels are amazing but for this room, in this house, with its history, an original work of art was key. We brought on @thicketdesign to bring life to these walls. Taking note of the flora found on the property, seeds pre-dating the home, and the fauna seen out the windows, the mural began to take shape.
This room was to be designed for reading, music, puzzles, games and entertaining. The new, more modern furnishings juxtapose the mantle and that stunning mirror, both of which are original to the home. Texture and patterns play well together and intentionally do not compete with the mural.
Designing a room with an architectural base this strong is an incredible opportunity and it was an honor to breath new life into this room.
Thank you @homeanddesigndc for recognizing this beautiful space. We are so grateful!

Last week Kristen and I snuck up to DC to attend the Home&Design Excellence Awards. It was our first time submitting a project for the award and I’m so excited to have won the Grand award for a single residential space. This room holds a special place in my heart so seeing it be recognized by a panel of judges in our field was a great feeling. The project is being featured in Home&Design’s IDEA book on stands.

We also stopped by the Washington Design Center to see some of our friends and to source beautiful things for some upcoming projects. A quick trip to Visual Comfort to confirm a few selections for our Roanoke Reno was also on tap. It was quite a fun, inspirational and satisfying 24 hours indeed!

Congrats to my team and a big thanks to our clients for trusting us and gifting us this opportunity. Thank you Home&Design for bringing it to light!

Hello, I’m Jessica and this is part three: the final video in our series titled “Faith in Action”. I have so enjoyed putting this together as it’s been an extremely reflective and enjoyable exercise. I highly recommend it.

My goal was to share a bit about my philosophy on my studio, why I’m so passionate about this business and how grateful I am for all of the experiences and opportunities that I have had. Cheers to many more years of bringing our clients dreams to life! Thanks for watching. It means a great deal. taken in Scott's Addition, Richmond by @jtwdesignllc

This week should be summed up as a whole lot of JOY. It’s not often one week celebrates the fruits of our labor quite like this one did so I’ll take it!

MONDAY: What a way to kick off the week! @homeanddesigndc honored us with a Grand Award for a single residential space. What an honor indeed!

WEDNESDAY : Documenting a beautiful multi-room project with @kipdawkinsphoto . This project is details on top of details and we can’t wait to show you!

WEDNESDAY : Outtakes are the best. I loved seeing Kristen’s face of pure joy while we captured each room. She worked so hard to create a thoughtful and beautiful home for our client. I am so proud of her and our entire team. It takes many hands and brains to make these projects happen.

WEDNESDAY : When we get to photograph projects that we fully design, implement and style for our clients it’s a dream. Getting to work with artists like @vesselandstem is icing on the cake.

THURSDAY: Kristen and Mark took on part one of a full home install. Our client is an architect so working on a home as striking and thoughtful as this has been wonderful.

THURSDAY: Missing a few key pieces still but who cares when you have views like that (and the pieces are soon to arrive!)

THURSDAY: The hobby room details are so good. It’s a high perch above the garage.

THURSDAY : Horizontal paneling is beautiful. Horizontal paneling with a beautiful wood detail in the reveals is even more beautiful. The rhythm it creates is striking.

THURSDAY : The @luliewallace wallpaper was the perfect choice for our angler clients.

THURSDAY : I spent the day touring the vineyards of Charlottesville thanks to @fergusonhomeofficial . Getting to spend the day catching up with my friend @jenniferradakovicdesign was a treat. She’s so talented!

FRIDAY : Have I mentioned how much I love flowers? Have I mentioned how much I love @vesselandstem ?

FRIDAY : Catch up day - FINALLY! Checking in with the team on several projects in the works. Good stuff coming up!

FRIDAY : Last stop before heading to the beach to celebrate our 17 year old! @boscobeltrace now has wood flooring. It’s really coming along. The stain is picked and I taken in Scott's Addition, Richmond by @jtwdesignllc

Hello! I’m Jessica, and this is part two of my story which I’m calling “Most Improved”. While I entered college with blind faith, through those four years, I realized that it truly was my destiny to go into design.

My Dad always said, “If you have to force it, it must not fit”. I’ve used that advice many times in my life and it’s quite helpful. Hard work to me does not equate to force. Yes, I worked hard, yes, I stayed up late and ignored sleep recommendations but it never felt like a burden (well, maybe that graduated shapes mobile project freshman year I had to finish while battling bronchitis…).

When you love what you do it doesn’t feel like work, right?

Stay tuned to Part Three (which I believe will be the final chapter of this series, maybe…) named “Faith in Action”. taken in Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA by @jtwdesignllc

I’ve been thinking a lot about challenges and opportunities lately. Many times they go hand in hand. This project that we took on seven years ago and spent 2 years designing and seeing built was exactly that.

Opportunity: designing our first lake home from ground up on Lake Oconee for an incredibly cool family.

Challenge: designing it remotely (100%) from Virginia, oh and also hitting the hardest part of the project during Covid.

I don’t know if I’ve ever been more proud of making it through this challenge because it actually turned into an even bigger opportunity. An opportunity to push our drawing and communication skills and to come out on the other side with an incredible product.

Seeing this home for the FIRST time was like I put on a set of VR goggles. It was surreal. Every tile, every accessory, every cabinet we designed, every inch of space in this home, inside and out, was selected and managed remotely. Nothing was standard and everything was fully custom.

Had the team of contractors, subs and our truly incredible client not been as top-tier as they were, I’m sure it wouldn’t have been quite as successful. Everyone was working for the same goal and it was a beautiful thing.

“Form follows function”, as architect Louis Sullivan stated in 1896. It’s a guiding principle in our work, each and every day.
Design starts with more than how we want the space to look. We’re thinking about how our clients live, what they need, and how the kitchen should function for them every day. Then we make sure it’s equally as beautiful!
Here’s a little peek at some of the functions behind the form. Interior design & Styling @jtwdesignllc
