It's been 30 years since the release of 1996's "Beautiful Thing", the film adaptation of Jonathan Harvey's play about two London teenagers, Jamie and Ste (Glenn Berry and Scott Neal), coming to terms with their burgeoning feelings for each other while Jamie's mom Sandra (Linda Henry) hustles to find a better way of life for herself and Jamie.

With exceptional performances by the cast, including Tameka Epperson and Ben Daniels in supporting roles, a moving, funny script and music by composer John Altman and Mama Cass, Beautiful Thing is an enduring classic and perennial favorite among romantic queers who love a film with some grit and happy ending.

The divine Niki Harris performed a night of MJ hits, re-interpreted in her unique jazz style this week at @districtlivesavannah
She did her younger self, who dreamed of
marrying Michael Jackson, proud!

Her voice is still so smooth and rich, at times with a tone similar to his. So many classics and deep cuts- from MJ, the Jacksons and Jackson 5 repertoire- performed as samba or smooth jazz, it was hard not to dance all night. Her band, led by Christian Tamburr, kept up with her energy and made for another fabulous Savannnah night out! Check @nikiharisofficial l out on tour if you can or @christiantamburrproductions next events at District Live

The amazing Cassandra Wilson @reallycassandra had passed away. What a voice, such a sumptuous delight crooning interpretations of both jazz standards and pop classics like "Last Train to Clarksville" and "Love Is Blindness", a unique and unforgettable talent who will be sorely missed.

2016 was a $h1t year for many reasons. So many losses: David Bowie, George Michael, Sharon Jones, Leonard Cohen, Bernie Worrell, Glenn Frey, Maurice White, and of course, Prince. Today marks 10 years since Juan Gabriel passed, one of the most legendary singer/songwriters of Latin music.

Aside from having written hundreds of anthems made famous by himself and icons such as Rocío Dúrcal and Ana Gabriel, his passionate, flamboyant and authentic style of performance was an inspiration for queer Latinos everywhere.

Bravo and brava to an amazing night of classical music and Latin pop songs with guitarist Andrew Blanch & chanteuse Maria Eugenia Nieva at the Otis S. Johson Cultural Centee in downtown Savannah this week! There's nothing like feeling the music as it's played live, with Blanch starting out by taking the audience through a musical and cultural history of classical guitar pieces. Then his beautiful partner Nieva came out, and they performed gorgeous Latin songs like Gracias a la vida, El dia que me quieras & Piel Canela. A fantastic show and a fantastic duo! 🎸 🎙
