🕊️ JACKSON’S LEGENDS BEHIND THE SOUND 🎹🎧

You know the voices. You know the songs. Now let’s honor some of the legends behind the boards who helped shape Jackson, Mississippi hip-hop.

💐 FREDDIE YOUNG — One of the early architects of our city’s sound. His house became a recording home for rappers, singers, and musicians from all walks of life. His impact reaches beyond hip-hop and deep into Jackson’s musical foundation.

💐 RAZZLE K — A pioneering producer whose sound helped bring Mississippi Mafia and so many early Jackson artists to life. His musical ear and production helped give the city records—and a sound—we could call our own.

💐 DJ HANDS — A founding member of both the Renegades and Mississippi Mafia. The sound man, the mentor, and the glue that helped hold it together. His place in Jackson hip-hop history goes far beyond the boards.

💐 RED BOY — A legendary producer, writer, and hook man who helped artists turn ideas into songs people remembered. His pen, melodies, and production left a lasting mark on Jackson’s music.

💐 TOMBSTONE — One of the best to ever come out of Jackson. A gifted artist and producer whose talent deserves far more recognition. Those who witnessed his work know how much he brought to the table. Today, we honor that legacy.

💐 J SKILLZ — A gifted producer with a devoted following and a mentor whose influence lives through artists helping lead the culture today. He helped build sounds, confidence, and futures.

All six are no longer here, but their work still speaks. Their lessons still live. Their fingerprints remain on the culture.

This tribute doesn’t include everyone who helped build Jackson’s sound. To every producer, engineer, DJ, musician, and writer who contributed: your work matters, and your place in this history deserves recognition.

From Ju City Legends: much love to the families, the collaborators, and everyone keeping their names alive. JACKSON, LET’S KEEP GIVING OUR LEGENDS THEIR FLOWERS. 🕊️💐

🎤 THE EVOLUTION OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI HIP-HOP
PART SIX: 2020–PRESENT — OUR SOUND, OUR WAY 🔥

We close this series with what may be Jackson’s most diverse and creative generation yet—a generation making its own rules and taking the city’s sound beyond Mississippi.

Salute Akeem Ali, a viral sensation and elite lyricist whose originality and rise toward national stardom continue to raise the bar. Dear Silas carved out his own lane and took it nationwide, proving how far being yourself can take you. Day One Nickoe emerged as a hometown hero and a voice of Jackson’s streets. And salute Polo Baby, the Mississippi Twerk King, for keeping crowds moving and bringing his own flavor to the culture. 👑

We also salute the women making their mark, bringing bars, style, confidence, and perspectives that deserve recognition. Their contributions are essential to this chapter of Jackson hip-hop.

From street anthems to lyrical storytelling, soulful sounds, and club records, this generation makes a strong case for Jackson having one of the most diverse and creative hip-hop scenes in the country. 💯

We know this series doesn’t include everybody. Being unmentioned doesn’t mean being unnoticed. Every artist, producer, DJ, engineer, promoter, and supporter who helped build this culture deserves appreciation.

Jackson, this is your history. To the pioneers who laid the foundation, the legends we’ve lost, and the next generation carrying it forward—thank you. Keep creating, keep supporting each other, and keep giving the city something to believe in.

The series ends here. The legacy keeps going.

🎤 JU CITY LEGENDS PRESENTS
THE EVOLUTION OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI HIP-HOP
PART FIVE: 2014–2020 — MAKING THEIR OWN WAY 🔥

This may have been one of the most talented generations of rappers Jackson has ever produced. This new crop brought fresh sounds, their own style, and a different approach to getting heard. Streaming, the internet, and social media gave them the tools to release music, build fan bases, and take their careers into their own hands. They created their own opportunities and helped push Jackson’s sound in a new direction.

At the heart of this era was the rise of Lil Lonnie, whose talent carried him beyond Jackson and into the national spotlight. His success gave the city something to celebrate and a new generation something to believe in. His untimely passing left a heartbreaking void, but his music, influence, and place in Jackson’s history live on. 🕊️ Long live Lil Lonnie.

We can’t fit every deserving artist into one post, but your contributions don’t go unnoticed. Salute to everybody who helped shape this chapter of the culture.

💬 Who comes to mind when you think of Jackson hip-hop from 2014–2020?
