Counting Poems. This one took its time. In art and text. It speaks to my heart. Two souls keep listening until they find one another. “HELLO. HELLO.” So much gratitude to @reycraftbooks @nonameisagoodname1 @armyvetfive @grencikkaren by @judeboxfactory

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I’m thinking of my friend and co-author Na’kuset, @supacree and the story she entrusted me to help tell.

I AM MY NAME, illustrated by One Dove, @0nedove shares her experience of the Sixties Scoop and her search for her sister. It’s a deeply personal story about family, identity, and what it means to reclaim your name.

I hope you’ll seek it out—at your library or a bookstore—and share it with the children in your life. Stories like Na’kuset’s deserve to be heard, today and throughout the year. 🧡 @knopfyoungreaders by @judeboxfactory

These two illustrations are actually from one spread, from my new picture book, PENCIL POWER. From @holidayhousepeachtree with @sallymorgridge Sometimes, there are spreads which “turn out fine.” This has been too much fun. by @judeboxfactory

I have watched my niece grow to be a kind compassionate smart gracious woman. And now a doctor. Doing the one thing she dreamt about. And by the way, if you see a someone standing with this exact same stance, it’s her. @that.doctor.chick by @judeboxfactory

Waited a while to finally share my second author/illustrated (after I TOLD A LITTLE LIE. ) The cover reveal for WORD POWER. This has been such a joyful journey seeing it all come together. I couldn’t have asked for a better publishing team, especially my gifted editor, @sallymorgridge @holidayhousepeachtree Sally proposed a die-cut for the front cover. It turns out that designing a hole is much harder than you think. 🤪🙄🤓 by @judeboxfactory
