NO GLUE!!! is a 3d-making workshop using found materials, focusing on how to manipulate and join different types of materials...no glue allowed!!!

This will be about problem solving, gaining new skills and creating new forms. It will be a busy hands-on two hours. All materials supplied.

Open to secondary school students (aged 13 - 18), this workshop offers an opportunity to work with a professional New Zealand artist who has taught art at secondary and tertiary level for over 40 years and mentored young artists throughout Aotearoa.

Judy Darragh is the Guest Judge of The Arts House Trust’s National Secondary School Art Awards 2026.

We are delighted to announce Judy Darragh (@judithdarragh) as Guest Judge of the National Secondary School Art Awards 2026.

Now in its 14th year, the Awards invite Year 11–13 students from across Aotearoa New Zealand to submit one original artwork for the opportunity to exhibit at The Arts House Trust, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, and compete for a prize pool of more than $6,500. Shortlisted works will be judged by The Arts House Trust curatorial team, joined this year by Judy Darragh.

Currently represented by @tworoomsgallery (Auckland) and @jonathan.smart.gallery (Christchurch), Darragh’s work is known for brightly coloured sculptural assemblages of found objects, recycled items, industrial materials, collages, photography, video, and poster art. Her practice displays a fondness for everyday objects that is witty and provocative.

She, with Imogen Taylor, co-editor of @femispherezine, a publication supporting women’s art practices in Aotearoa, and she is a member of @arts.makers.aotearoa, an advocacy group for the visual arts. Darragh continues to exhibit extensively throughout Aotearoa, New Zealand, and her works are held in numerous public collections in Aotearoa.

Having taught art at secondary and tertiary levels for more than 40 years and mentored young artists throughout Aotearoa, Darragh is the ideal guest judge for the National Secondary School Art Awards.

The Arts House Trust Director, Anita Tótha, comments: “We're beyond honoured to welcome Judy as this year’s guest judge. Her remarkable career as an artist and art teacher, along with her longstanding commitment to supporting young artists, brings a valuable layer of insight and inspiration, enriching the experience for all participating students.”

I am over the moon to be showing alongside one of my art-heroes, the incredible Judy Darragh ❤️

The exhibition title refers to a once revered Jell-O delicacy popular in 1950s America. Invented in 1904, this suspended concoction of chopped cabbage, celery and red peppers (with a tang of citrus), received 3rd place in a Better Homes and Gardens recipe contest, thus igniting the savory Jell-O’s ascent in popularity. It became a bit of a status symbol in suburban dining, signifying that a housewife had a refrigerator and the time to prepare 'elegant', labour-intensive food. Don’t forget, you’d need an understanding of the relative density of the ingredients to ensure that everything didn’t sink to the bottom.

Please join us for the opening of PERFECTION SALAD this Wednesday 22 April, 5-7pm at Jhana Millers Gallery, Lv 1, 81 Victoria St, Wgtn. There'll also be a selection of new works by Denys Watkins in the foyer space!
