INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD: CREATING OPPORTUNITIES, EMPOWERING FUTURES

As we commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child, I join the global community in reaffirming the importance of protecting the rights, nurturing the potential, and advancing the aspirations of every girl.

Every girl deserves more than protection. She deserves access to quality education, equal opportunities, a safe environment, and the freedom to pursue her dreams without fear, discrimination, or limitations imposed by her circumstances.

I remain committed to advocating for a society where no girl is denied an education, subjected to abuse, or forced into child marriage. Every girl deserves the opportunity to discover her strengths, develop her talents, and grow into a confident, empowered woman capable of contributing meaningfully to society.

Through G4EP, I continue to recognise and promote the importance of education, engagement, empowerment, and entrepreneurship in creating opportunities for girls to learn, lead, and shape their own futures.

To every girl child, your voice matters, your dreams are valid, and your future deserves investment. Believe in your abilities, pursue your aspirations with confidence, and never allow your present circumstances to define the limits of your future.

As we mark this important day, I encourage parents, educators, institutions, and all stakeholders to move beyond celebration and embrace meaningful actions that protect girls, expand their opportunities, and support their development.

Let us do more than celebrate the girl child. Let us create a world where every girl is protected, every voice is heard, and every dream has the opportunity to become a reality.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child.

I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of 25 lives in the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the 20 passengers and five crew members who lost their lives in this heartbreaking incident. This is a painful loss not only to their families and friends, but also to their colleagues, communities and the nation.

Behind every life lost is a family, a story and people who will now have to live with the pain of an unexpected absence. At a time like this, words may not be enough to ease the grief, but our thoughts, prayers and solidarity remain with everyone affected.

I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Air Force and all those mourning this great loss. I pray that Almighty God grants eternal rest to the departed and gives their families, colleagues and loved ones the strength, comfort and fortitude to bear this difficult moment.

May God continue to protect the men and women who serve our nation and grant wisdom and guidance to those working to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

My thoughts and prayers remain with every family affected by this heartbreaking loss.

May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.

It was a privilege to join stakeholders at a Civil Society Organisations Summit held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Centre in Abuja, under the theme, “Nigeria First.”

The summit provided an important platform for meaningful conversations on national development, the role of civil society, and the need to strengthen the relationship between government and the people.

In my remarks, I highlighted three key responsibilities that must guide the work of civil society organisations.

First, we must remain credible accountability partners. Our engagement with government must be constructive and solution-driven. It is not enough to identify problems; we must also be willing to contribute ideas, propose solutions and support efforts that move our communities and our nation forward.

Second, civil society must continue to serve as a bridge between government and the people. This means taking government policies and programmes to the grassroots while ensuring that the voices, experiences and concerns of citizens are communicated back to policymakers. Meaningful engagement must work in both directions.

Third, we must lead by example. We cannot demand transparency and accountability from others if we are unwilling to demonstrate those same values within our own organisations. The credibility of civil society begins with the standards we set for ourselves.

I also stressed that the success of our engagements must go beyond speeches, meetings and conversations. The real question is: What will change because we gathered?

What communities will become safer? What policies will improve or emerge? And whose life will be better because we acted?

These are the measures that should give meaning to our collective efforts. Leadership must ultimately be measured by service and the lives we improve.

I therefore hope that this summit will translate into stronger partnerships between civil society and government, better policy outcomes, practical solutions and tangible impact in our communities. It should also help reposition civil society as credible, responsible and solution-oriented partners in national development.

*RECOGNITION AS AMBASSADOR FOR HUMANITARIAN SERVICE*

I was honoured to be recognized for my contributions to humanitarian service at the 5th Edition of the Law of Honour Award Night, convened on the margins of the High-Level Global Executive Roundtable Side Event of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 2026) in New York.

At the event, I was formally conferred with the distinguished title of *Ambassador for Humanitarian Service.*

The high-level gathering brought together eminent personalities, development stakeholders, diplomatic representatives and private sector leaders in a setting that celebrated exemplary leadership, selfless service, peacebuilding, community resilience and inclusive sustainable development. The occasion was graced by distinguished personalities including Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR, Secretary-General, International Human Rights, Under-Secretary for Africa Development, United Nations, United Nations Global Compact, Global Organisation for Sustainable Development Goals and the Civil Society Organisations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI).

I receive this recognition as a significant milestone in my leadership journey, rooted in advocacy, empowerment and service to humanity. I regard this honour not merely as an acknowledgement of past contributions, but as a renewed call to responsibility to advance humanitarian action, support vulnerable communities, promote human dignity and accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

I remain resolutely committed to leveraging every platform available to me to champion people-centered initiatives that empower individuals, strengthen community systems and foster meaningful and sustainable social impact.

I express profound gratitude to Almighty God for His grace, guidance and faithfulness. I am equally grateful to all partners, colleagues and well-wishers who have supported and believed in this vision of service to humanity.

I receive this honour with humility and a renewed commitment to the work ahead.
To God be all honour and glory.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, NIGERIA

Today, I join millions of Nigerians at home and abroad to celebrate our great nation and reflect on the journey that has brought us this far.

Nigeria is a nation of remarkable people, rich in diversity, talent, resilience and hope. As we celebrate, may we continue to choose unity over division, compassion over indifference, and hope over despair.

May we continue to build a Nigeria where every citizen has the opportunity to dream, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to our collective progress.

Let us continue to believe in the possibilities of our nation, support one another, and play our part in building a Nigeria that future generations will be proud to call home.

May God continue to bless our dear nation and everyone who calls Nigeria home.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria.
