Social media's goal is to hold our attention. But what if social media was a god-like shrine? what would it look like?

Here's how I made "The Attention Hostage", a cast concrete sculpture formed from discarded computer parts, a life cast of my son's hands on a keyboard and a buck skull.

This sculpture is available for purchase. Click the 🔗 in bio for inquiries or to become an insider.

A window into the process of the making of "We are the crown of creation"
This piece grew organically starting with a torso body cast with skull in hands. From there, his head became a sort of mushroom cloud explosion of intellectual brilliance in full display. Definitely inspired by Bruce Connors mushroom cloud head figure image. And definitely a tip of the hat to the Jefferson Airplane's song, The crown of Creation, which references this notion of the biblical idea of humanity as God's crown of creation. And I think honestly it goes back to my deep history of being an oingo boingo fan. @dannyelfman Danny Elfman's song , "why'd we come"where he says "we've gotten so smart. We know how to blow the whole world apart. But when it comes to the simple things like living together? Ha!!!"
I love the primal feeling of the body with the skull and then the tree roots. Like rooting us to our primal origins while contrasting humanity's intellectual prowess in the scenario of peril.

This cast concrete sculpture I think of as sort of a shrine or a totem to the algorithm. The currency is our attention and it's really got a hook in most of us. So what if this being that commands our attention had a physical form like a God? If you like what you see and want to become a studio insider click the link in my bio. Thank you!

"Ahh the Prayers of the Millions How They Must Fight and Destroy Each Other On Their Way to the Throne of God"
A title borrowed from an excerpt in Steinbeck's Tortilla Flats that seemed to encapsulate the thrust of this artwork. My son posed for the praying figure life cast. For me this piece conjures a sense of hope superimposed over the backdrop of the war machine's perpetual turnings. This piece was cast in concrete with a subtle patina for character and adorned with a dog skull and metal ornaments. I'm currently building a beautiful steel pedestal for it. It's slated to be installed at the Cloverdale art trail this month. Hope you enjoy it! #castconcretesculpture #sonomacountyartist #ccaalumni #sculpture taken in Santa Rosa, California by @judsonkingsmith
