PART IIIshocking thing that has ever happened to me. I had just seen him and he was his normal fun spirited High energy self. Had I known he was leaving I would have spent every moment by his side. But I’ll never see him again and it’s the most heart breaking thing I’ve ever experienced. It kills me that we’ll never watch or talk about soccer together again. I’ll never make him one of my breakfast burritos that he loved so much and would ask for first thing in the morning. We’ll never go to the pool and while I’m chilling and lounging in the sun, him in the water say “come on, get in!” There was just so much left to do and share together, but life can be very cruel sometimes. All I can do is carry on, and know that his spirit lives within me, my family, and every person he touched in his long but cut short life. Wherever he is I know he’s nagging and annoying me in the most loving way possible. I miss him so much already. RIP VICTOR DUCATENZEILER ♥️ by @jules__duke

PART II My dad taught me to play soccer and coached all of my teams growing up. We would watch the same Diego maradona video compilation every night. He put his trumpet that him and his father played into my hands in fifth grade and that was the first instrument I learned. His passion for life, music, and sport, is something that I’ll always carry with me. His sense of humor was unlike any other and not just because he had a funny accent, but he Had a genius timing and delivery and way of making anyone around him laugh and smile. He loved to eat food! (Maybe too much haha) Long story short even though this story is very long, my parents decided to divorce after 30 years of marriage and he moved back to Argentina to be with his family, he picked the trumpet back up and started gigging again! It made me so happy to see him doing what he loved again instead of selling pool tables and cars for a living. He was very happy and living off very little means. He came to visit me in the states for a couple months every year and would stay at my childhood home with my mom. They were still very close friends! We took father/son trips to Vegas (he loved playing poker) and the beach and as much as his big personality would annoy me at times it was such a blessing to share those moments together. I was lucky enough to visit him in Argentina just before Covid for three weeks and cruise the city, hang with family, watch him play gigs, and I even sat in on drums one night with his band! Anyways, cut to the past two months of his life. He was making his annual visit from Argentina to spend time with my sis and I, but i could only come home once a week to due to my obligations in LA. One night he went to sleep and didn’t wake up. Getting the call from my mom that he had passed was the most gut wrenching, by @jules__duke

PART IMy dad was born in Argentina, into a family that fled WWII (Ashkenazi Jew immigrants). His father was heavily into jazz and played trumpet. One story I remember of him was that he held exclusive jazz listening parties where all attendees were prohibited to speak and only meant to listen to the newly innovative sound of jazz music, which I thought was so cool. Just like his father he took up jazz trumpet with big dreams of doing it professionally. At a fairly young age the country was under turmoil and anyone who was an artist was a threat to the government, so my grandma urged him to flee the country. I forget the exact specifics but I remember him telling me he traveled on a shady boat up the Amazon river and eventually ended up at Berkley school of music. He barely spoke English and shared a room with five other guys. Eventually he ended up on the island of Aruba off the coast of South America where he had a steady gig for years. My mother traveled there for her own gig and they met and shared a brief romance until he called her in the states and asked her to return to join his band! She shows up with a huge dog and a bird and he told me his thought was “oh god what did I get myself into haha.” My mother’s mom visited them and he literally drove a full jeep of them into a ditch and she dubbed him “the village idiot.” Haha. They fell in love and moved to Miami and played in bands together for years. I was born in San Diego and my sister a few years later and they would lug us around to rehearsals and performances. We moved to Argentina briefly to be raised there, but the economy was so poor we came right back to the states. At a certain point both my parents decided to pick up trades to provide a better life for my sis and I so my mother became a hair dresser and my pops a salesmen. What my sis and I lacked in spoils my parents made up for in an enormous amount of love and care. by @jules__duke
