I love these honest moments, they’re really useful but also eye-opening.

I asked this student whether they could halve 3000 (they could) and pointed out that 3 still isn’t an even number.

This caused the magical thing (cognitive dissonance) and then we could talk about how to halve 3500.

So much of my teaching involves listening to my student and asking questions. If they can make my eyebrows rise up, we’ve got a useful and interesting point!
