Surrender.

Before my trip to India, I liked having a plan. I liked knowing what came next. I liked believing that if I prepared enough, worked hard enough, or thought carefully enough, I could stay in control. India quickly humbled me. The language was unfamiliar, the healthcare was uncertain, my family was thousands of miles away. Simple tasks suddenly felt complicated. Hours of traffic became normal, plans changed constantly, comfort disappeared. For the first time in a long time, I realized how little control I actually had. And strangely, that’s where I found peace.
God gently showed me that I had been carrying things He never asked me to carry. My future. My emotions. My fears. My plans. I believed I trusted Him but I hadn’t surrendered everything.
Some of my greatest lessons weren’t learned during ministry moments. They were taught in a hot, crowded rickshaw. Patience stopped being an inconvenience and became a classroom.
Compassion stopped being an idea and became the faces of people whose stories I was invited into. Looking back, I wouldn’t trade the discomfort. Because it was there that God revealed Himself more clearly than my comfort ever could.

There are places that change your perspective forever. This was one of them.

For two hours, I felt every emotion imaginable at the leprosy care center. Compassion. Grief. Confusion. Anger. Hope. Questions poured into my mind faster than I could process them. Why does this happen? Why does suffering exist? How can I help? Will anything I do ever be enough? I still don’t have all the answers. But God has been teaching me something far more valuable than answers, dependence. Prayer became less of a routine and more of a necessity. I realized how often I spend my life chasing moments worth posting while overlooking people worth loving. The Kingdom of God has never been built on perfect photographs or exciting adventures. It has always been built through people who stop, listen, serve, and love. Every conversation inside that clinic reminded me that eternity matters more than comfort.

Our lives are not our own. They belong to the One who first loved us. And perhaps the greatest thing we can do isn’t fix every by @julia_trost05
