my beautiful girl,

five years of you. five years of your laughter filling rooms, your little arms around me and a love that somehow keeps growing beyond everything I thought my heart could hold.

when I look at you I see pieces of myself, only brighter. you have my fire but you carry it with a softness that is entirely your own.

you are strong and confident yet so deeply gentle. you notice the hearts around you. you feel with them, love deeply and care so naturally. there is so much strength in you but never at the cost of your softness.

and that is one of the things I admire most about you.

I hope you keep your fire, your courage, your beautiful heart and that quiet certainty of knowing exactly who you are.

and then I watch this little video of you taking your first steps at just one year old and for a moment I wish I could reach through time and hold that tiny version of you again.

back then I thought I had so much time.

and somehow I blinked and you are five.

four years between those little steps and the girl you are today. four years made up of a thousand little moments that somehow passed in a heartbeat.

maybe that is the hardest and most beautiful part of watching you grow.
