I had the honor of moderating a fireside chat with @jayshetty at the @incmagazine’s #Inc5000.

What struck me most about prepping with Jay was his intentionality. His most important ask before we even began? Understanding the audience’s needs.

That’s purpose-driven leadership in action…and it’s exactly how we’ve always approached building @eventbrite: putting our community’s needs first.
Do you know what it takes to be on the Inc 5000 list? These are the fastest-growing privately held companies…true barometers for what’s possible when vision meets execution🚀.

Huge appreciation to @mhofman12, @stephaniemehta, and Bonny Ghosh for creating such an inspiring experience. 🤝

Feeling so grateful seeing my local newspaper @goodtimessc feature my journey…from a Santa Cruz barista. 💛

These childhood photos brought back memories of family, community, and the small moments that taught me about connection, curiosity, and resilience. Every step, no matter how tiny, helped shape the bigger ideas I get to work on today. Biggest thank you @votedna ✒️

Twenty years?! 🎈 Sending love from SF, where this 🤯ride began.

Looking back, it’s wild to think I was just 25 when we started this. At the time, my co-founder Kevin was my fiancé...the ultimate “stress test” for a relationship! Along with our co-founder Renaud Visage, we set out to make it possible for anyone, anywhere to host a live experience.

To celebrate, we brought the whole family back together—our incredible Britelings! It was a long road back together but between the talent and the energy in the room, it was made clear: once a Briteling, always a Briteling. 🧡

I am so proud to say that two decades later, our mission is more relevant than ever. Our new Social Study report shows we’re in a ‘Reset to Real’ moment that matters. People are craving unrepeatable, off-script moments you can’t find on a feed. The world is demanding to be present in ways that are authentic and raw.

And while I have you, I offer some humble bragging like a proud parent about our community. Just last year, creators in 180 countries hosted 4.7M events and sold over 83M paid tickets. That is a lot of connection made IRL and opportunities for indelible memory-making. Because of creators, @Eventbrite was honored with a Fast Company Brands That Matter award again.

Here’s to 20 years of making memories🥂✨ taken in San Francisco, California by @juliahartz

We have all most likely used Eventbrite at some stage.

I just met Julia and Kevin Hartz, co-founders of @eventbrite, who shared the incredible story of how the startup went from zero to becoming a public company and survived the ultimate test of any founder:

Going through COVID when all events and revenue stopped overnight.

This is one incredible story, completely raw, filled with love, and with one ultimate takeaway: you’ve just got to do it.

These are my lessons from this episode 👇
1. Solve real problems, not trends.
2. Curiosity beats assumptions.
3. Complementary founders build stronger companies.
4. Follow customers, not categories.
5. Simplicity wins.
6. Speed matters most in a crisis.
7. Adapt before you’re forced to.
8. Technology should bring people together.
9. Great businesses evolve with every challenge.
10. Entrepreneurship is an identity, not a destination.

Before she built one of the world's most beloved event platforms, @juliahartz never planned to become an entrepreneur.

She left a career in Hollywood, moved to San Francisco, got married, became a mom, and started @eventbrite all in the same year.

What followed was years of learning, resilience, and betting on an idea she believed in. She heard no from investors 27 times, built the company without outside funding, took Eventbrite public in 2018 as one of the few women to do so as a founder-CEO, and led the business through the challenges of COVID when growth disappeared almost overnight.

Her story is a reminder that you do not need perfect conditions to build something extraordinary.

In case you needed the reminder: nobody really knows what they're doing.

Eventbrite CEO @juliahartz chats with 3x Olympic gold medalist @kerrileewalsh about staying open-minded to opportunities — even if that means leaving your game plan at the door.

AI is not just another tech trend.

It’s a leadership test. 🚨

This week on YAP, I sat down with Eventbrite co-founder and former CEO, Julia Hartz (@juliahartz) to unpack how entrepreneurs should lead during the biggest technology shift of our lifetime.

Julia believes leaders need to approach AI like hobbyists by experimenting constantly, building fluency fast, staying curious, and learning by doing.

Because reading about AI is NOT the same as understanding it.

And companies that stay passive right now risk falling behind very quickly.

But Julia also shared an important reminder:

As technology accelerates, human needs don’t disappear.

People still want connection, meaning, belonging, and community. 🫶🏼

The entrepreneurs who win in the AI era will understand both systems and psychology.
