Lost Lake Trail in Vail, Colorado! My last hike in Colorado, because im officially back on the East Coast! I’m not sure why I hadn’t done this hike before?? This was my second summer working at Piney River Ranch, and the trailhead is only twenty minutes down the road! I wish I’d hiked Lost Lake sooner. I loved it so much that it definitely would’ve become a repeat hike. It felt like I was right back on the Appalachian Trail. The leaves were changing, and it was stunning. The photos don’t do it justice. I was in the woods most of the time, but occasionally the trail opened up to beautiful mountain ridgeline views (Gore Range). I’ve been struggling on my hikes recently (random sickness), so hiking at high elevation or going on strenuous trails hasn’t been the most enjoyable. However, this trail was very chill— it kind of felt like a nature walk with random bursts of incline…. So exactly what I needed after feeling extremely humbled by all the recent daunting summits. I ended up speed hiking because I started at 4:15pm, which is a big no-no for Colorado hiking (crazy unpredictable afternoon weather), and at 5pm I realized I had 4.5 miles left and sunset was in two hours. Oops. Usually I’m not that unprepared. But I actually liked going fast (I think because it also reminded me of my time on the AT, where I sped through the miles). Anyways, so weird and sad that this is my last Colorado hike/post for the foreseeable future 😞 But….. per chance ….. Appalachian Trail return now??? The DeCaLiBron - Mount Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, and Bross! Four 14,000ft mountains summited in one hike! And…. It was AWFUL!!! 😆😆😆 I began hiking at 4:45am. It was 35 degrees and my stomach was in shambles. The 1300ft climb (in one mile) up to Mount Democrat (the first summit) in the pitch black was just miserable. Thankfully, as the hike went on, I began to feel better and had some ‘I love hiking moments!!!!’ when I saw the spectacular views. That said, for the majority of this hike, I was just not having it. It was so windy on the top of Mount Cameron it was hard to walk. Going down the mountain was possibly even worse than going up? It was so steep (slide 9) that I had to butt slide at times (thankfully AllTrails reviews warned me to bring poles for the downhill, which was an immense help). I realize that this post is very negative, when there were definitely some parts of this hike I enjoyed and could (and should) speak on… Oh well. Here’s to summiting my fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth fourteener! 🎉 (09/08/26) taken in DeCaLiBron by @juliaishiking

Chasm Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park! This hike was surreal. Quite possibly one of the prettiest hikes I’ve been on? @chl0harding and I car camped the night before, since the trailhead was 3 hours away from the ranch. Hiked the trail on just 4.5 hours of sleep, but despite this, I still found the hike pretty easy—the elevation gain was very gradual, there was only one (super fun) scramble (slide four), and we were not moving at a speedy pace…Lots of photos to be taken! I plunged in the lake and the water was FREEZING ⛄️ Lasted 12 seconds in it. The big mountain in all the photos is Longs Peak, a very popular 14er! Chasm Lake sits right at the base of it, and it was mesmerizing staring right up at the peak. I will be back on this trail ~one day~ to summit Longs, but for now I am very satisfied with this hike to Chasm 😛 Oh, and yes, slide five is a video from the privy near the lake because … is that not the most scenic bathroom ever? Oh to Be Joyful Trail in Crested Butte! This was such an awesome hike. The views were amazing. We saw three moose. The alpine lake was honestly not ~too~ cold so we could swim rather than just quickly plunge. Im not sure why but the trail was basically empty?? We started hiking at 11am (no horrible 2am wake up) since we weren’t summiting a mountain and didn’really have to take into account afternoon storms (and the weather was great)! I think the only downside to this trail is that most of the elevation gain is right before the lake (the turn around point)—before that it’s basically a walk. Honestly, though, compared to other hikes the short climb wasn’t too bad since we took it slow. The real challenge is that the trail is fourteen miles; however, with the beautiful, constantly changing scenery, the miles flew by. Great awesome #joyful day 😛😛 (08/04/26) taken in Oh Be Joyful Trail in Crested Butte by @juliaishiking

Hanging Lake in Glenwood Springs - A hike I’ve been wanting to do since last summer! You need a permit to access this hike and the night before our day off a couple tickets became available, so we quickly snatched them! The hike is super popular (and thus crowded) because it’s right off the highway and pretty short. The trail is basically a 1.5 mile staircase. Zero flat parts 🥲 We sprinted through the hike because @sorayagraciiano set the pace and she is a beast (I was kind of dying). When we got to the lake I was in awe because I haven’t seen anything like it before. So much green everywhere. I think I’d consider this hike a perfect hike for someone who wants to get into hiking because it’s a short drive from major Colorado cities, the trail is well paved, there is decent incline, and the views are rewarding! Summited Mt. Bierstadt!!! My fourth 14er (14,000ft mountain)! Mt. Bierstadt is said to be one of the ‘easiest’ 14ers to hike, but I can not say I had an ‘easy’ time. @willdalonzo_ and I hiked it on 3.5 hours of sleep, as we woke up at 1:40am to drive to the trailhead, which was two hours away. We started the hike at 4:10am in the pitch black. The first mile was flat, which was great, but as the hike continued, I needed to take lots of breaks and became a huge complainer 🥲 The 1k feet of elevation gain + scrambling in mile 4 was especially not chill. Feeling terrible was all worth it, though, because the views at the summit (and the whole hike) were just spectacular. Also, we oddly (since I would’ve expected more people to start hiking when we did) had the summit to ourselves! It was freezing up there, and we did not bring gloves or hats. Oops. I forgot how cold it is at the top of 14ers! By the time we were down I forgot how tired I was because I was so happy to have summited another 14er! I’m back in Colorado😝😝 First hike of season 2: Mayflower Gulch Grand Traverse in Frisco/Breckenridge with @rhetttcrouse ! This hike through the gulch was the perfect first hike back, since I was definitely not ready to be summiting any mountains on my second day here. In fact, we cut the hike short (about a mile or so) because we were quite tired. We were hiking at a very fast pace, though, so that was kind of our fault. The gulch was so beautiful. Lots of wildflowers (that of course I forgot to take photos of). So much greenery everywhere. I just missed Colorado so much, and I’m so excited to continue exploring the state, picking up right where I left off last summer! (07/20/26) taken in Mayflower Gulch Trail by @juliaishiking

Lava Lake Trail in the Custer Gallatin National Forest (near Bozeman, Montana)! Until I reached the lake, this hike was completely through the woods. Usually I don’t like this, but honestly I didn’t mind it this time because this forest was so beautiful—super tall trees, lots of creeks, etc. I was often alone on the trail and terrified of seeing a bear but thankfully I didn’t lol. The lake was insanely warm. Pool temperature, no joke. The whole trail was uphill—zero flat parts—but it wasn’t too intense. I tried to hike pretty fast to prepare for my upcoming intense Colorado hikes 😝 (07/17/26) taken in Lava Lake, Gallatin National Forest by @juliaishiking

Maud S. Canyon Loop with @bella.m.zack Butte, Montana. This hike was interesting because it was directly off the highway….When you looked to the left, cars zoomed by. When you looked to the right, there were beautiful mountains and boulders. Then the trail went through the woods/a meadow for a brief moment. Very odd 🤷‍♀️ (07/15/26) taken in Maud S Canyon Trail by @juliaishiking

Mount Aeneas in Jewel Basin (Hiking area in Montana’s Swan Range) 💎! I loved this hike so much for so so many reasons! A decent portion of the trail was out of the treeline, which I find makes the hike seem easier because you are distracted by the views. The trailhead was only a short drive away (bumpy road though). Hiked it with friends, which is obviously always fun. Perfect weather. Just the right level of difficulty—there was a steady elevation gain the whole time, but you could hold a conversation. And finally…. we saw MOUNTAIN 🐐s. My favorite animal! They’re so nonchalant. I just love them. (07/14/26) taken in Mount Aeneas by @juliaishiking

Mirror Lake, Lake Agnes (slides 3,7,9) Big Beehive, AND Plain of 6 Glaciers (slides 1,6,10) at Banff National Park in Canada 🇨🇦!! The trails to reach these ‘famous’ lakes/peaks/glaciers all start at Lake Louise (slide 2). As you need to take a shuttle to Lake Louise, and it would be a hassle to go two days in a row, I reached these four spots in one hike. I wanted to make it to Little Beehive (a fifth super popular peak in this area) as well, but I was exhausted when I was nearing it. I haven’t been on a hike where the elevation gain was 4k+ since I lived in Colorado last summer. My AllTrails says this hike was around 12 miles, but it was kinda glitching, so i think it was actually around thirteen miles? There were views the entire way and I found it so cool how each lake/mountain looked different from one another, despite being so close together. I met four awesome older ladies on the trail and hiked for a LONG time with them (They’re awesome. We had a picnic the next day). I watched a proposal happen at the top of Big Beehive (Slides 4 and 8 are the views from the peak)! I even ran into four Emory alumni, which is so bizzare because what are the odds?? The photos really don’t do the views justice. I genuinely have nothing bad to say about this hike. I’ll think about it for a while. My only regret is not jumping in one of the lakes 🥲 Especially when Mirror Lake (slide five) was suspiciously warm… (07/09/26) taken in Banff National Park by @juliaishiking

Cracker Lake in Glacier National Park…. Look at that water!!! This hike was absolutely awesome. Elevation wise it was pretty easy since the gain was only about 1600ft over 12-13 miles (tracker was kinda off so not sure exact distance); however, since it was super long, it was very tiring. We also SPED. Not really sure why? Our average pace was about a 21min mile. I passed out on the car ride back home. The water was freezing, but that didn’t stop us from going in. Alpine lake dips always mandatory duh. (06/23/26) (One day I’ll get better at posting my hikes close to when I hike them) taken in Cracker Lake Many Glacier, Mt by @juliaishiking
