New book! Bury Me Already (It’s Nice Down Here) is out now and you can get it anywhere books are sold!

Bury me Already is, on the surface, a comedic graphic novel about having a baby. But beyond that, it’s about my decision to become a mother after years of ambivalence, and all the body-horror, chaos, fear, and joy that decision led to. It’s also about miscarriage, abortion, a life-altering family trauma, the pandemic, and California wildfires. You know, just some easy-breezy stuff. But funny! I promise!

If you enjoyed Impossible People and wanted to know what happened after I left NYC, this book is the unexpected and occasionally dramatic answer. But behind all the drama, it’s really a story about love. Because although I might present as dry and sardonic, behind my resting rage face is a sincere and cheesy…MOM?? I’m a MOM??!!! What the fuck. My kid is five now and I still can’t believe it.

Out now! Many thanks to @lagrumeeditions! And to @audepasquiertrad for the translation. My work is not easy to translate because I make so many dumb jokes and odd references, so a really good translator like Aude will ask me about certain things rather than making an assumption, and thank god because half the time I’m like “it’s wrong on purpose 😬” sparing us both an incorrect translation. L’Agrume has my whole back catalogue available (including books that are out of print here) so get books from them or your local bookstore! (Book image c/o @librairielesintrus. Reposting this post-birth scene from 2020 because someone told me they heard the line in the last panel in a TV show recently and thought the show stole it. While I wish I could take credit for the (extremely relatable, possibly universal) revelation, I cannot, due to both its ubiquitous nature and the fact that even though this event took place in 2020, the book came out this year, and any TV show airing this year was most likely written the year/s before.
That said, many years ago there was an episode of Broad City in which a bird shit in someone’s mouth—a real thing that happened to me and that I had tweeted about the year prior. One of the show’s writers had been following my account, which gave me pause, but then I moved on because who gives two flat fucks. Although if I ever see a scene in which a character shakes a caterpillar out of her hair in the middle of a date, I will absolutely know it was stolen from me because c’mon. (In my defense, it was the time of year where a certain type of caterpillar gathered in the trees on my block, and it was a very humid day, meaning my hair was curly and frizzy, the perfect combo to trap bugs.)
Aaaanyway, these pages are from my book that you can buy anywhere books are sold, or directly from me in my online store. by @juliajwertz

Bury Me Already takes place mostly in Petaluma and Sonoma- we moved halfway through. When I want to use a town as a backdrop, I fully draw the stores and streets before I even plan how they’ll appear in the final panels. Because I am insane. I’ll post Sonoma next! buy the book anywhere books are sold (and at @copperfieldspetaluma) or directly from me at juliawertz.com/store taken in Petaluma, California by @juliajwertz
