🪺🕊🍪 A little bird told me you might like this bird’s nest cookie! 😀

As you may or may not know, each quarter I try to shoot about eight videos over the course of two days, and I love to try to wow with at least one 3-D cookie project in each shoot. Well, back in Spring 2019, that (hopefully) wow-worthy project was this 3-D folk art cookie bird’s nest cookie! It’s loosely inspired by the fired bisque work made by St. Louis artist Stephanie Barken, whose charming art can be found at Green Door Art Gallery (https://greendoorartgallery.com/stephanie-barken/). She was selling a wonderful ceramic bird piece at the time (which I sadly no longer see online). My cookie structure departs from hers pretty considerably, but I hope mine has the same smile-inducing quality!

Since this project is relatively involved, I decided to break it into two videos for easier viewing. This reel previews the cutting and decorating of the ten primary cookie components, with a focus on the more time-consuming and difficult parts (the base dome and the bird on top). The second part will be previewed in a reel in a couple of days, so stay tuned! And please enjoy this part in the meantime!

🍁 FALL INTO GREAT SAVINGS! 🍁 Fall is perhaps my favorite season – and my fall stencil designs are some of my personal faves too! Lucky for you, they’re all on sale (along with fall designs by my partner @confectioncouturestencils) from today (September 10) through September 23. Just spend $50 or more, and get a whopping 25% OFF by applying code JUFALL25 at checkout. ENJOY!

P.S. The collage shows a collection of my designs and those by my partner. The more detailed, many-color designs are mine, with real stencil handiwork on real cookies. My partner’s images are mostly graphical representations, but they give you a good idea of what to expect from those stencils.

🔗 SHOP ALL FALL STENCILS by clicking on the link in my bio and then on the image of this post. Don’t forget to use code JUFALL25 at checkout.

⭐️ SITE MAINTENANCE IN PROCESS ⭐️ Hi, all! Just a heads up that, yesterday, my tech support team did a massive plugin update on my site juliausher.com, and, despite attempts to minimize changes in custom formatting and function of the site due to these updates, there are a number of known glitches we are working through WHILE THE SITE IS UP AND RUNNING. NONE OF THESE GLITCHES AFFECTS NEW PURCHASES OR YOUR ABILITY TO VIEW YOUR PAST TUTORIAL PURCHASES ON THE SITE, but they do affect some obvious things:

(1) galleries are not opening and scrolling properly;
(2) the “CLASSES AND EVENTS” area has a lot of excessive line breaks and its calendar is not functioning properly;
and
(3) emails from the site are in the process of getting consistently reformatted; they’re still sending, but the new email plugin changed their look in ways I don’t like.

⭐️ Anywho, I just wanted you to know that I am aware of these issues; I am working on them; and they should only pose minor, temporary obstacles to viewing select areas of the site. I DO NOT YET HAVE A FORECASTED DATE AS TO WHEN ALL WILL BE FIXED, BUT I HOPE VERY SOON. I’ll keep you posted, and I thank you for your patience.

Yikes! Online orientation starts tomorrow at 8:30 AM CT, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have any pre-school jitters! I hope I can ease back into the discipline of attending class and doing homework . . . the last time I was in school was 34 years ago when I got my MBA; 30 if I count culinary school a few years later!
