Leaving a better planet for our children... what if we ALSO leave better children for our planet?? We, the global society, need a collective consciousness to bring back the balance in nature through sustainable living. Not continuing with the nonsense disposable consumerist model that is taking us to extinction. What kind of planet are we handing over to the next generation of little ones? What kind of humans are we rising up to take the responsibility of this planet? Collectively we are failing to manage and care for our home, while heavy economical interests continue to damage the balance of the planet. The temperature rises, the poles melt, the land burns and all that would be left floating will be the element upon which all else was sacrificed for. But there is still hope and there is still a light. Early last year I was finishing this portrait, a painting of what I believe is one of the most beautiful and heartwarming photographs ever taken of a Peruvian child. Across our region, remembrance takes shape in unexpected places

The GrainCorp Walpeup Silo Art, painted by @juliancla and @refuz_paint in 2023, honours Harold Thomas Bell – a local who enlisted at just 16 and served with the Light Horse Regiment in WWI. Bold, emotive and deeply personal, it’s a tribute impossible to pass by without pause

Human Disintegration - is by far one of my most meaningful and travelled artworks since my times at university. Each block of wood, nearly 4,000 of them, was cut, sanded and painted by hand. Took months to make and days to assemble and dissemble at each different location. The portrait of a child holding a belt of bullets found amongst the rubble.

During these times, war is different, with weapons of mass destruction and mass distraction threatening all corners of the world. The impact and consequences are bigger but the victims remain the same, children, women and men caught in the middle in a conflict that is never their own. by @juliancla

Hello again, social media world.
After a long and unexpected break, I’m finally back to sharing here.

Swipe to the end to see why I’ve been absent for almost a year.

With this post I also want to close the chapter on a truly wonderful experience at THE LUME Melbourne where a retrospective of my work covered every corner of the space . Last year we said goodbye, with gratitude and full hearts, to the very special Amaroo Foundation.

That evening I was surrounded by my love LR, dear friends AP, AL, CL ML SL LF my Australian families, whose love and support have helped shape my steps every single day. Thank you all for always being there. 🙏✨

Then, in my second attempt to make it to the Olympics, I dove fully into my baseball journey. Not long after, everything suddenly came to a halt, a shoulder dislocation while sliding into home base. It kept me away from the fields, the walls, and the canvases for months.

But now I’m back.
Back in full gear.

On June 1st, THE LUME Melbourne closed its doors, marking the end of an era for the world’s largest digital gallery—and the first permanent immersive digital art gallery in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere.

I am deeply honoured and sincerely grateful to the AMAROO Foundation and THE LUME @thelumemelbourne for the opportunity to have my work exhibited on the magical surfaces of this extraordinary space in November last year. Thank you 🙏 taken in THE LUME Melbourne by @juliancla

Back at posting on IG after summer hibernation of deep work on canvases and blocks works. “DAWN OF GRATITUDE” - “Water is the element that unites us all and this mural is a tribute to nature, to water, to life”. Wangaratta sits on the Ovens River, and this mural celebrates its central part in the life of the city, as a place of relaxation as well as a source of life via safe drinking water.
