We are pleased to introduce the artist behind the 2026 Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival signature image!

📸Photographer Jules Jimreivat captured climber Mira Capicchioni on Time to Power in Smith Rock State Park, Oregon—a place where Jules often climbs and shoots. She recalls noticing the moon’s perfect alignment with the route on a previous visit: “I wrote it down in my notebook to come back for this exact frame… What I didn’t anticipate was how perfect the light would be. It was one of those rare moments when planning meets luck.”

The Festival’s signature image highlights exceptional mountain adventure photography each year. Following last year’s 50th anniversary image by Paul Zizka, we were drawn to the vibrancy of Jules’ photograph—the warmth, the contrast, and the luminous moonrise. 🏔️Notably, this marks the first time in more than 20 years (and only the fourth time overall) that the signature image was composed by a woman photographer.

Love me, love me not.
A personal project emphasizing female confidence to invest in something hard, sometimes ugly, and personal, whether anyone loves it or not.

Inspired by a childhood of hoping boys would love us, and growing to find we'd chase our dreams whether they loved it or not.

I spend ages making images look the way I feel.

Then I put them here and I have to use a whole other discipline to make good word combinations.

Use vocabulary to express the same thing the photos express?!
Gosh the bar is high, but here I try:

I'm playing with surrealist concepts: familiar things made strange and dark. The inner mind at work. This parallels the mental struggle of a long run.

I'm giving you glimpses of a moment, but not the whole run. I leave you to fill in the rest.

A long run is a battle of the mind; subconscious feelings brought to the surface, strange ideas, memories distorted, perspectives changed.

I'm playing with surrealist concepts: familiar things made strange. The inner mind at work. Magritte painted this way; dream-like, sometimes haunting.

I've been looking at surrealist art a lot. What I like about this art movement is it's push to explore perception. There's a part of the brain that tells us what's beautiful, but we struggle to consciously access it.

I think these mysteries of consciousness are beautiful all by themselves.

This was really fun modeling for @trevorlately

There's a particular discomfort that lives in front of a camera. It doesn't matter how much experience you have. Modeling reminds me what I'm asking of my talent every time I direct. And how rewarding it is to help someone else's vision come to life!
