Mermaid’s Enigma ✨ linked in bio💙

Some parts of us remain mysteries, even to ourselves.

Half revealed by light, half hidden in shadow — she carries the feelings, instincts and truths we cannot always put into words.

Sometimes, we simply have to listen.🩵

Song of the Siren

A new siren is emerging from the depths, surrounded by shimmering reflections and deep blue water. ✨🌊

10,000 of you. 💙

Today feels like the perfect moment to properly introduce myself to all the new people who have joined me recently.

I’m Julia Shilo, a Ukrainian artist living and working in Bulgaria.

My work is an exploration of the inner world — those subtle emotions, instincts and feelings that we sense long before we can explain them. Through feminine mythological figures, I explore the invisible landscapes of human experience: intuition, desire, vulnerability, transformation, and the parts of ourselves that exist beneath the surface.

Mermaids, sirens and forest nymphs have gradually become my visual language for exploring these inner worlds.

And lately, mermaids and sirens have completely taken over my creative world. 🧜‍♀️

Something magical must be happening here. 😁

With these works, I reached No. 1 in the Top 40 sellers on Artfinder, and they also opened the door to two exciting opportunities: Affordable Art Fair Houston in October and Aqua Art Miami in December, where I’m now actively preparing.

The growing interest in the mermaid and nymph works — especially all your questions about prints of paintings that had already sold — pushed me to finally finish and launch my website.

And Call of the Siren, 🔴 sold recently, became a particularly special moment for me. It was the first direct sale through my website juliashilo.com and the little push that turned my almost-ready site into something real. It also started a lovely chain of first print orders, which means so much to me because every purchase is a little sign of your trust.

The website is now live with my available paintings and all currently available print editions from the Mermaids & Sirens and Forest Nymphs collections. I’m still adding new work and developing it, so there is much more to come.

Thank you for being here, for following this journey, and for giving these mysterious creatures such a wonderful life beyond my studio.

🩵As a little thank you for being here, I’ve created a 10% discount on all available prints until the end of August.

The hands represent our sins — everything we hold on to, everything that keeps us from moving forward and following the light. Old attachments, guilt, fears, choices we cannot undo. Sometimes we carry them for so long that we forget we can let go.

The idea finally came together after a conversation with someone I had just met. I believe some encounters happen for a reason. Perhaps this one came into my life at exactly the right moment.

This is also the first time I’ve painted a male figure. It was a very conscious choice. I wanted the human body to be present as part of the story, while keeping the focus on its meaning rather than its beauty.

This work is deeply personal to me. Perhaps that’s why it took so long to become what it was meant to be.

Have you ever felt that something you couldn’t let go of was keeping you from moving forward? 🤍

Julia Shilo (@juliashilo.art) explores the intricate depths of the human inner world, self-identification, and the profound, complex dialogue we hold with ourselves.

Through figurative painting, conceptual series, and aesthetics inspired by cyanotype, she delves into themes of memory, personal boundaries, and the subtle compromises that shape our identity. By utilizing layered textures, a restrained palette, and delicate visual metaphors to capture fleeting moments of light and shadow, she beautifully translates the quiet traces of time and lived experience onto her canvas.

They say, “Wear your heart on your sleeve.” 💙

I took it quite literally… and gave it my own twist. 😉

Heart Wide Open is about the courage to show your feelings, trust others, and let yourself be vulnerable.

“In the Current” is available by link in bio. 💙

Sometimes, invisible forces carry us forward — people, feelings, and experiences that shape our path. 🌊

And sometimes, all we need to do is let go and trust the current.

What do you think is carrying you forward? ✨

These mini paintings 30 × 30 cm (11.8 × 11.8 inches) are currently available on my website juliashilo.com or follow the link in my bio💙

Each piece plays with a familiar English idiom or expression — sometimes I turn its meaning upside down with a touch of sarcasm, sometimes I offer my own interpretation, and sometimes I simply explore the beauty of the idea through painting. 🎨

Curious about the story behind each work? You can read the concept on my website and discover the meaning behind the title.

If a painting speaks to you, you can make it yours. 🤍

This is the biggest canvas I’ve ever worked on, and the siren is almost life-size. 💙

Between the Worlds will be available to see and purchase in person at Affordable Art Fair Houston this weekend!

I’m feeling incredibly excited and a little nervous. For the first time, my mermaids and sirens will meet their audience in real life. After spending so much time with these figures in my studio, I can’t wait to see them in an exhibition space and discover how people connect with them.

I’m looking forward to photos and videos from my beloved @artseeker.gallery and, of course, to hearing your reactions. What will people feel when they see these works up close? I’m so curious! 🧜‍♀️

Wish me luck and send me some support — this moment means a lot to me. ❤️

💙 A little milestone in my artistic journey!

My new interview with Artfinder is now live! ✨

In this conversation, I share how my artistic journey has evolved, how I found my way to my signature blue monochromatic paintings, and how my audience gave this visual language its name — Blueism.

We also talk about the reality of being an artist, the unexpected things about my painting technique, and what I hope people discover when they live with my work.

For me, art is about more than creating something beautiful. I hope my paintings encourage people to pause, look inward, and discover something new about themselves.

I’m grateful to @artfinder_com for the opportunity to share my story and the ideas behind my work. 💙
