Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia.   Today reminds me why I make the work that I do, and why we need to show our queer community love and support and fight every day so that we can all thrive. 22 years ago today, Gary “Brazon” McMurtry was murdered for being fabulous.  Quoting the @theadvocatemag, “A former Miss Gay Columbus, McMurtry was known for his quick wit and love of Dolly Parton, whose songs were played at his funeral. While comedic and sometimes surly, McMurtry is also credited by many with giving time and raising thousands of dollars for local gay and AIDS charities.” At his trial, his defense lawyer said his client believed he was morally correct in his decision to kill and was not an evil person. “There are people who think it’s not moral and it’s illegal to be gay,” said Tullis. “I am simply asking the court to keep an open mind.” This is why I have been working to bring @queeramericanmemorials to life with @mtowey66, @julie.rhoad, @sarahldylla, @massdesigngroup, @annieyuxi, @redthreadnyc, @nyutisch, @dotdotstudio, and @dylanlilla to honor those we have lost along this path for queer equity #IDAHOBIT2024 #LGBTQIA by @julie.rhoad
