TODAY’S THE DAY! The new versions of Kingdom and Song are out, with gorgeous covers illustrated by the talented @chillustrates (whose art you also see in the background of these graphics)!!

In honor of the Rise of the Empress’s Hollywood journey to the screen, I am thrilled to be releasing these new editions in ebook and paperback!

It has been nine years since Forest of a Thousand Lanterns released and I am so proud of this series and excited to see it adapted for TV. And I’m endlessly grateful to all of you who have supported these books over the years. ❤️

I love October! Fall is my favorite season and usually my most productive. I’m working hard on a new novel, a series of novellas, and a project I hope to self-publish. I am also active on Substack! Subscribe if you haven’t already; there’s a ghost story from my college days coming this week 🎃👻 Link in my bio.

Spooky season is the best time of year! Here are some books I wrote that would go well with cozy blanket, a hot drink, and some apple pie 🍁🍂

Dracula’s Lucy Westenra like you’ve never seen her before: In this retelling from critically acclaimed author Julie C. Dao, the perfect woman bites back.

Lucy Westenra is beautiful, rich, loved by three men—every inch a lady. But beneath this sparkling, flirtatious facade, she is fascinated by death, which has stalked her throughout her short life. For her, the dead do not slip away easily, as they do for her best friend, Mina; they linger.

When Lucy departs for Whitby, her nightly sleepwalks introduce her to the mysterious Vlad, who seems to see parts of her she has never let show before. Vlad makes her an offer: Every century, he seeks out the “perfect woman of the age,” who embodies all the values of her society, to live with him in immortality—and Lucy could very well be this woman. For the first time, she feels herself able to share her darker side with someone. Thinking herself dreaming, she agrees to cheat death with him.

When Vlad finally appears in the light, it is aboard a ship covered in corpses. He toys with Lucy and mocks her in Mina’s presence. And one night, he drains a corpse dry right before her eyes. He is a vampire, a monster ready to take her. He expects a good Victorian lady, appalled by his darkness, a victim. But Lucy is only enraptured. When Vlad reacts with violence, Lucy has no choice but to fight for her agency, even if it means giving up her humanity. And her tormentor will soon find she is no easy opponent…

The first book of a duology that retells Dracula from the point of view of Lucy Westenra, this gothic romance is perfect for fans of Penny Dreadful and Danielle L. Jensen.

I’m looking forward to releasing these new versions of Kingdom and Song with bonus content and beautiful covers by @chillustrates next week! They will be available in both e-book and paperback. Hopefully a whole new audience will discover them before the adaptation hits the screen!

To love is to see someone as they truly are...

Lan is in love with Tam. So why does he avoid her, only showing up on the river at night to serenade her with his bamboo flute?

Bao is in love with Lan, but she is too high above him to notice. The only way he can capture her heart is through his music… while pretending to be Tam.

When Lan discovers the deception, she flies into a rage. She regrets her cruel words when Bao disappears… but then unexpectedly returns, his soul trapped inside of his flute by a witch. He’s bitter, resentful, and determined to stop loving her, but the magic has bound them together.

To make amends, Lan vows to journey with him across Feng Lu, though war is brewing and a strange illness is spreading. Slowly, she begins to realize that this brave and gentle boy might just be the love she longs for.

Will Bao ever forgive her? And if they break the spell, can their bond survive?

This magical second chance romance will enthrall lovers of romantic fantasy!

My Substack hit 1K subscribers this weekend and I am grateful to every single person on my mailing list! I’m a millennial who was raised on LiveJournal and Blogspot, so long form writing is my forte and my favorite. And we are only just getting started! Link in my bio to subscribe. I’ve got a personal essay coming soon about the night I spent in my friend’s haunted dorm in college — perfect for October 🍂

NH Book Festival is one of the best run events I’ve ever attended, and I’ve attended a LOT of events over this 10+ year career! I loved moderating the YA panel, running into friends, and signing SIX of my nine books. Thank you Emilie, Susan, and all of the organizers and volunteers who made this go so smoothly! Also, how PERFECT was the fall weather? 🍂

A long-lost princess must take back her empire…

Jade leads a quiet life at the monastery, hidden from a world she only knows through her nursemaid’s fables. When a letter summons her to the Imperial Palace, she is forced to reclaim her true identity as Crown Princess and face her stepmother, the ruthless Empress Xifeng.

At court, Jade discovers that her father is deathly ill. Women are disappearing in broad daylight. And the empire is slowly dying in Xifeng’s iron grip.

Jade doesn’t want the throne, but there is no one else to save Feng Lu. Armed with only a map of folktales, she embarks on a perilous quest for five relics that will call down the Dragon Lords and end Xifeng’s dark reign once and for all.

Will Jade find the courage to embrace her destiny?

A reluctant princess. An epic quest. And an apple that will bring either life or death…

This breathtaking Snow White-inspired fantasy will delight readers of all ages!

I took @melodywrites as my hot date to the NH Book Festival author kickoff party! A TIME WAS HAD. We’ve been friends since Pitch Wars a million years ago. Swipe to the very last photo to see our first ever selfie at the Boston NESCBWI in 2014.

Also, I entered a giveaway last minute and won a gold necklace and THEEEE @jodipicoult said my name onstage! I screamed! She is a legend! I can’t wait for my panel tomorrow at noon, Kidlit Stage. Come see me moderate and I will sign whatever books of mine you want afterward!
