POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Color grading used to be very intimidating to me. It seemed like there were a million options to mess things up. And then there was the question, what does a good color grade even look like?

Today I have way better understanding of the process and thus it even became fun.

To everyone starting out, I’d say start simple. Pick one tool at a time and learn about it. Understand what it does to your image and where its limitations are. If you are not sure where to start, I’d suggest contrast (curves and HDR wheels), since it can easily take your image to 80%.
Also, learn what tools to avoid since there are certain ones that make your life harder than it needs to.

One of those tools is are the primary wheels in Resolve. They are very easy to wrap your head around, but they impact your image in such a broad way, that it’s hard to make really targeted adjustments. For example, if you use the gamma wheel, it is very likely that you have to adjust gain and/or lift afterwards to compensate.
A way better and cleaner tools are the HDR wheels. If you haven’t already, give those and try and I’m sure you’ll notice a difference right away, especially in the time it takes you to grade your image.

As for resources, the most helpful YT channels to me are Darren Mostyn, Cullen Kelly and Eric Lenz.

Oh and last thought, get good quality footage. It can be very frustrating when you try to make bad footage look good. You simply can‘t fix everything in post.

What an event!

Last night I was able to be at the launch event for the new Brick Shop x Hotwheels line-up.

I had a blast getting creative with my camera and I‘m super pumped on the shots I was able to get. Mind you, no editing, all captured in camera.

It‘s been a great experience getting talking to the design team about rhe level of detail that went into these. Just one example, you can actually shift gears and have a functional steering rack.
Also, most of the Austin car community was there so it was a great opportunity to catch up with friends and also make new connections.

Big shout out to Mattel, Brick Shop and Hot Wheels for this fun, light-hearted and passionate event.

Can you guess which car was my favorite?

3 days, 15 hours of work, 26 reels and same-day-delivery

The @ara_rally Olympus rally has been one of my most intense but also most fun editing experiences yet. It definitely helps being part of a great team and getting to work with high quality footage. I managed to clock-in working hours and output beyond my own expectations and in the end I wasn‘t just content but proud of what I was able to deliver.
It feels like this weekend unlocked a new level on my self-employment editing journey and I‘m grateful for this opportunity.

This is exactly what pushes the discipline forward and keeps it alive.

Big respect to everyone who showed up, you were all incredible, no matter your level.

No pressure, just riding, sharing and progressing together.

Huge thanks to our partners @cast_official_ , @inspiredbicycles and @thule and of course @stride.indoor.bike.park for hosting.

Shot, edit, color and effects for @devilmaycare.band

I‘m still super stoked how this one turned out.
This was my first of hopefully many opportunities to capture a concert and also to shoot with an FX3.

Edit and Color for @chriscdurk and @texas_dave from @rallyrescue

This one was very near and dear to my heart. I got to help Chrissy and Dave share their mission to tackle the stray dog crisis in Dale, TX. I‘m pleased I had the chance to contribute to their cause. by @juliens_creative_solutions

The Lost Pines Rally Sprint at Rally Ready was something truly special to me. 🚗💨

It was my first motorsport event that I attended as part of the media crew. This was a dream come true. I captured some sick shots, connected with really cool people and was just smiling from ear to ear.

Thanks again to everyone at @rallyready and @notcoywhite for this opportunity. I'm forever grateful! 🫶🏻
