Lately, life has been a lot of little things.

Maybe this is the life we’re always told to slow down and appreciate.

Maybe the messy kitchen, the laundry piles, the car rides, the late nights, the barking dogs, the homework, the games, and the dinners nobody remembers tomorrow are not the things standing in the way of life.

Life has looked so different these past two years.

Somewhere along the way, I became a wife. I gained weight, became a stepmom to three kids, welcomed two dogs into our home, and learned what it means to love someone whose work keeps him miles away more often than I’d like. None of it has been easy. Some days have stretched me in ways I never expected.

I’ve lost pieces of myself along the way. I’ve let go of old versions of who I was, old expectations, and things I thought I’d never have to leave behind. But in the space they left, something even greater began to grow.

I’ve gained a family. I’ve gained resilience. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of love, sacrifice, and the quiet strength that carries you through the days when you don’t think you have anything left to give.

Life doesn’t always ease you into the next chapter. Sometimes it throws you straight into the deep end without warning.

But being thrown into deep water doesn’t mean you’re destined to drown.

I learned how to swim.
