Zu unserem nächsten Fotosalon laden wir euch herzlich zu einem besonderen Ausstellungsbesuch ein:
Mittwoch, 2. September 2026, 19 Uhr f³ – freiraum für fotografie @fhochdrei  Prinzessinnenstraße 30, 10969 Berlin
Gemeinsam besuchen wir die Ausstellung „Erwin Olaf – Muses“ und erhalten eine Kuratorinnenführung von Katharina Mouratidi. @k.mouratidi
Erwin Olaf (1959–2023) zählt zu den bedeutendsten niederländischen Fotografen der Gegenwart. Als Pionier queerer Sichtbarkeit porträtierte er bereits früh Männer aus der niederländischen Schwulenszene, Aktivist:innen, Drag-Performer:innen und Menschen, die in der Mehrheitsgesellschaft kaum wahrgenommen wurden. In einer Zeit, die von konservativen Moralvorstellungen und der Stigmatisierung von HIV und Aids geprägt war, entwarf Olaf ein neues queeres Selbstbild: selbstbewusst und sinnlich, zugleich verletzlich, melancholisch und politisch.
Die Ausstellung konzentriert sich auf Olafs Porträts und zeigt Gesichter als Spiegel von Identität, Sehnsucht, Stolz, Widerstand und Vergänglichkeit. Auch seine Selbstporträts setzen sich eindringlich mit Sexualität, Alter, Krankheit und der Suche nach dem eigenen Bild auseinander.

Archival Research: the pErFecT body. What is perfection? What influences our body image? Which tools exist to shape and extend bodies?

@_elsamueller 's class allowed me to dive deep into tools that are supposed to extend and “beautify“ the body. Who belongs? Who doesn’t?

On Feburary 12, 2025, I was given an Alien Residency (Alien ID-Number) by the Danish Authorities. I asked: „Excuse me, did you just call me an Alien?“ „Yes, by that we mean all people that are not Danish.“
What started with a simple moment in the center of Copenhagen ignited a several-month thought-process about belonging and alienation, especially within Denmark.
In an environment in which societal norms are valued highly, i was more interested in the cracks in between: Which places offer space for those that want to break out of this seemingly preset lifestyle?

Homo oder Hetero? (2023) 🧠🤖
@schilong_xu and I explored bias in AI image generation. We used the same prompt for both images, the only difference: the second portrait included the word “homosexual.” The results were drastically different. Facial features changed. Skin structures changed. Even the clothing shifted.
Why? Because AI reflects the bias in the data it’s trained on: data shaped by human stereotypes and discrimination.
Why is this problematic? Sexual orientations can’t be read from someone’s face. And yet, the AI (and many of us) feels free to do so.
At the exhibition, people asked: “But now, tell us, who of them is the homosexual?”
1. That question is the issue.
2. None of them — they’re AI-generated.
We created this to open a discussion, and put a spotlight on this:

Hilda (111)
My great-grandmother, Hildegard Rau, passed away one day before her 112th birthday, at the age of 111. She was born in 1914, the year the Titanic was built. It’s almost impossible to imagine a lifespan as long as hers, and all the memories and events she experienced. She was still sparking a light and making jokes at 111! 💫
As one of Germany‘s last representatives of her generation, I’m grateful that my studies at @klassehickmann enabled me to preserve her history and look at our modern life and generation from a different perspective.
Rest in peace, Hilda. 🤍
