Ephesus 🇹🇷

Ephesus, now Selçuk in modern Turkey, was one of the most famous cities of the ancient Mediterranean. Founded in the Bronze Age and important from ancient Greek times, it contained the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and served as a crossroads between the East and West for centuries.

There are visible ruins of a library dedicated to Proconsul Tiberius Julius Celsus Polemeanus, governor of the province of Asia, that housed between 12,000-15,000 scrolls.
The library of celsus wasn’t just for books — it was built as a tomb - constructed around 110 AD, it honored Tiberius Julius Celsus, a roman governor, whose remains were buried beneath it (yes… under the library)

The columns of the Library of Celsus are pure Roman show-off architecture — and they’re not just there for decoration.

They’re Corinthian style, the most elaborate of the classical orders. That means tall, slim shafts with heavily carved capitals covered in acanthus leaves.
Many of the columns you see today are reconstructions. The site was damaged by earthquakes and later invasions, so archaeologists reassembled parts using original fragments.

Alaçati 🇹🇷

Alacati Windmill Park sits on a hill overlooking the stone village of Alaçatı and the Aegean coast — and it’s basically a postcard that forgot it was real.

The windmills date back to the 1800s and were originally used to grind wheat using the strong Aegean winds that blow through the peninsula. Nothing romantic about it back then — it was just practical farming machinery.

This bronze statue depicts the Virgin Mary and is located near the House of the Virgin Mary in Ephesus, Turkey.The statue is positioned on the road leading to the house on Mount Nightingale (Bülbüldağı), a significant pilgrimage site for both Christians and Muslims.It is believed by some traditions that Mary spent her final years in a house at this location.

Now most of them are restored and used as a viewpoint rather than functioning mills. The hill gives you a full panoramic shot of Alaçatı’s whitewashed houses, stone streets, and blue sea in the distance.
