Introducing our first custom typeface for the city of Seoul! 🇰🇷 I’m very happy to share that, in collaboration with South Korean type foundry Tlab, we developed a bilingual type system that brings together Hangul and Latin in a unified design. Designed to support Seoul’s vast public infrastructure, from subway maps to street signage, this typeface was built for one of the world’s busiest cities. With over two billion people using its transport system every year, our goal was to create a typeface that is not only enduring, but also clear, simple, and highly legible. 🔗 Full story on our website. 🔵🔴⚫️⚪️🟠🟢🟣 taken in Seoul, South Korea by @july.type

Introducing JT Percy 💎🌟 The development of the typeface began with the study of stone-carved letterforms, archival research and visits to cemeteries. Early inspiration came from the inscriptions at the Royal Institute of British Architects, crafted by Percy John Delf Smith, a student and later assistant of the legendary Edward Johnston. The flowing swashes, inscriptional quality, and expressive lowercase r stood out and inspired the early sketches of the typeface. The uppercase propotrtions are rooted in second-century incised inscriptions, while the lowercase reflects nuances from Renaissance-era letterforms, creating a balance between classical structure and humanist detail. One of the standout features of JT Percy is its extensive range of ligatures and swashes. Definitely the most complex project in Jt library, with over 6,000 characters per weight. Designed to give you the freedom to experiment, and a lot of possibilities for expressive typographic compositions. We can’t wait to see how designers will use them! 🌟🌟 JT Percy also comes with full Cyrillic support. This part of the project was developed in close collaboration with @pavel.pvlv , and further refined with insights from our talented Ukrainian intern at the time, @levtype . Through ongoing dialogue, we ensured that the Cyrillic character set resonates with the spirit of the Latin forms, both in tone and typographic voice. @nika.langosz worked her magic on expanding swashes and kerning, while @rafalbuchner wrapped up the engineering side. 🙇🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️ JT Percy is designed with expansion in mind, and we plan to release serif version and additional weights in the near future. 🌐 Campaign by an amazing duo: @jon.koerner and @pumakuma 🍥 Ps: We updated our Trial font license. Introducing JT Disway 💎🌟

 JT Disway is a flared-serif typeface inspired by outdoor signage, brush calligraphy, and sign painting. Its slightly condensed proportions and small flared serifs give the letterforms a distinctive character, while carefully considered details keep the overall look clear and straightforward. Each style has been carefully drawn to balance these expressive details while ensuring that the typeface performs well across different media, both on screen and in print. The family ranges from Regular to Extra Black, with italics for each weight, giving the typeface plenty of room to shift from subtle to bold and expressive designs.
 The heavier styles are especially suited to headlines, posters, signage, and short texts, where their strong shapes can really stand out. JT Disway is a versatile typeface suited to a wide range of applications, whether on a sign, a poster, in a headline, or as part of a visual identity. It performs nicely in text settings, particularly at larger point sizes, where its details, condensed proportions, and flared shapes have room to shine. Playful, charming, and practical, JT Disway makes your designs memorable and distinctive.

Designing Latin Type
Workshop with Edward Dżułaj NohType에서 네덜란드 헤이그를 기반으로 활동하는 폴란드 출신 타입 디자이너이자 July Type Foundry 설립자인 에드워드 줄라이(Edward Dżułaj)와 함께 라틴 문자의 구조와 디자인 원리를 살펴보고 직접 디자인해보는 소규모 워크숍을 엽니다. 라틴 문자의 형태는 쓰기에서 출발합니다. 쓰기 도구와 방식에 따라 획의 대비가 만들어지고, 이는 라틴 타입 디자인의 형태를 이해하는 중요한 단서가 됩니다. 에드워드의 강의 **〈Latin Script in a Nutshell〉**에서는 헤릿 노르트제이(Gerrit Noordzij)가 『The Stroke』에서 설명한 넓은 펜촉(broad-nib pen)과 뾰족한 펜촉(pointed pen)에서 비롯되는 두 가지 획 대비 원리와 그 사이의 다양한 형태를 살펴봅니다. 쓰기 도구의 각도와 획의 대비가 어떻게 연결되는지 보여주는 짧은 브러시 시연도 함께 진행됩니다. 이어지는 〈Designing Latin Type〉 워크숍에서는 이러한 원리를 바탕으로 Glyphs를 사용해 라틴 글자를 직접 디자인하고, 에드워드의 피드백을 통해 작업을 발전시킵니다. 일시 2026년 10월 18일(일) 10:00–14:00

New feature on the website! We’ve added “In Progress” section where we share upcoming typefaces. 👌 JT Mango is slowly approaching its final stage and is planned for release in autumn 2026, featuring both Latin and Cyrillic scripts. A Poster style is planned for 2027. 🛝 JT Mango is the project I’ve been working on the longest. ⌛️🎫 I first started it back in 2018, while I was still a student, and it has gone through many major changes over the years. In recent years, designers @lineline3000 and @edge_stavros joined me and helped develop it further. 🫶🔡 by @july.type
