Gooch Residence, Toronto 🏠Gooch Residence is a full two storey side addition to a classic semi detached home in Toronto’s west end. The goal was to gain floor area, improve natural light, and give the house a calm, modern identity while keeping the character of the original brick shell. The clients are a growing family with children and one parent working from home. The plan needed clear separation between active family zones and quiet focus space, generous storage for everyday life, and comfortable sightlines so parents can supervise play while cooking or working.Spatial Planning: Main & Second FloorThe new side addition replaces the narrow side entry with a full two storey volume that unlocks both levels of the house. On the main floor, kitchen, living, dining, and mudroom now form a simple loop, so circulation feels natural for kids and adults, with a central island kitchen looking across the living area and out to the rear deck. Upstairs the layout is reworked to include a larger primary bedroom with ensuite, two children’s bedrooms, an existing bathroom, and a dedicated study near the stairs, giving the work from home parent a quiet, defined workspace while keeping the family bedrooms close by.Mood Board & Aesthetic:Outside, the warm existing brick is paired with a vertical charcoal clad volume and larger black framed windows. Inside, the material mood board follows a Modern-Classical aesthetic: navy and sky blue upholstery, walnut wood, brushed brass accents, ribbed and fluted textures, and white hexagonal marble tiles that visually connect the main living spaces with the private rooms.Structure & Performance:The addition sits on new 10 inch concrete foundations dowelled into the existing ones so both parts of the house act as a single structure. LVL beams, steel lintels, and coordinated floor framing support the open concept main floor and larger window openings without compromising structural integrity. The result is a home that not only looks contemporary, but also feels more comfortable and energy efficient year round.#GoochResidence #jumaarchitecturalinc #TorontoArchitecture by @jumaarchitecturalinc

A Harmony of Structure and Serenity Project Location: Etobicoke, Toronto Design Vision: Moon Stone Project Scope: Interior Main Floor Alteration/RenovationThis renovation reimagines the main floor as a calm, open, and light-filled living environment. Inspired by the Moon Stone aesthetic, the design focuses on warmth, balance, and simplicity. Natural materials such as light oak and honed stone create a grounded foundation, while soft neutral tones and subtle metallic accents add refinement without visual clutter. The overall palette is intentionally restrained, allowing natural light to become a defining feature of the space.Spatial Transformation:The existing layout was reworked to create a seamless connection between the kitchen, dining, and living areas. By opening up the center of the home, the main floor now functions as a unified living space that feels more spacious, inviting, and flexible for everyday use and entertaining.Structural Approach:To support the open layout, the interior load-bearing walls were removed and replaced with a concealed structural beam system. This allowed the space to open up without compromising safety or performance, resulting in clean ceiling lines and an uninterrupted visual experience. Before / After Summary:Before:A compartmentalized main floor with enclosed rooms, limited daylight penetration and interrupted circulation between living spaces. After:A bright, open-concept main floor with improved flow, stronger visual connections, and a cohesive design language that supports modern living.#jumaarchitecturalinc #torontoarchitecture #architecturedesign #moonstone by @jumaarchitecturalinc

Project PersonaPersona Circle, Brampton ON.Design Strategy: Organic Modern This Project redefines the concept of the Basement Suite, moving away from the typical utility focused layout, we treated the lower level as a primary residence. Guided by the Organic Modern / Soft Luxe mood board, the design uses warm taupes, olive greens, natural wood tones, and layered textures to soften the space and eliminate the typical below-grade feel. Materials were selected to feel tactile, warm, and grounding, creating an atmosphere that prioritizes wellness, light, and restoration.Basement TransformationExisting Basement Floor Plan:The existing basement was primarily used as a recreation space with large areas unfinished. Circulation was unclear, living functions were not defined, and the layout did not support independent living.Proposed Second Unit Dwelling:The proposed design reorganizes the basement into a clear, self-contained second unit through intentional spatial zoning. A defined bedroom, living area, kitchen, and laundry are arranged to improve flow, usability, and separation of functions. Living spaces are consolidated and positioned to feel open and cohesive, while service areas are efficiently grouped to reduce clutter and noise.#jumaarchitecturalinc #Architecturedesign #Beforeandafterdesign #Organicmodern #basementremodel by @jumaarchitecturalinc

Project Perth || 2019The proposed design rethinks the existing layout from the basement to the rooftop to improve flow, light, and long term livability while remaining within the original building footprint. Across all three levels, circulation was clarified, room proportions refined, and stronger relationships established between primary living spaces. Shared areas were opened to improve usability and connection, private spaces were adjusted for comfort and privacy, and a rooftop terrace was introduced as a natural extension of the home. The result is a thoughtful balance of function, design, and build efficiency.Basement Floor Plan:Existing: Fragmented layout with inefficient circulation and limited usable living space.Proposed: Reorganized plan with consolidated service areas, improved stair access, and clearer circulation, resulting in a more functional and intentional living environment.Main Floor Plan:Existing: Compartmentalized rooms with disconnected circulation and limited daylight flow.Proposed: Opened layout connecting kitchen, dining, and living areas, improving spatial flow, natural light, and overall usability.Second Floor:Existing: Uneven room proportions and indirect access to shared spaces and exit stair.Proposed: Refined bedroom layouts, improved circulation efficiency, and clearer spatial hierarchy between private and shared areas.Rooftop Terrace:Existing: No usable outdoor space at the upper level.Proposed: Introduction of a rooftop terrace providing functional outdoor amenity, improved views, and enhanced indoor-outdoor living.#jumaarchitecturalinc #designinspiration #ProjectPerth #ArchitecturalDesign #TorontoArchitecture by @jumaarchitecturalinc

Rest In Peace Architect Richard Rogers“The Pritzker Prize winner had a prominent career spanning more than five decades, and designed some of the most famous public buildings of the late 20th century.Rogers continued designing with a functionalist ethos through the height of postmodernism in architecture, allowing systems to be read as style. Later grouped into the historical umbrella of “high-tech architecture” by theorists like Reyner Banham, Rogers’s buildings bare their structural and mechanical systems, emphasize open, flexible spaces, and celebrate transparency between interior and exterior. Part of this formal openness served to pull in urban energy, making interiors the extensions of public plazas and other urban centers. A strong concern for public space and the life of cities runs throughout Rogers’s career, eventually leading him to several roles advising the London and UK governments on urbanism. His urban design philosophy was based around the importance of piazza-like public spaces and the achievement of a new type of contextuality based on scale, height and connectivity. Both together enable buildings and environments that are stylistically very different — for example, the Centre Pompidou and Haussmann’s 19th-century Paris — to fit together within a city’s urban fabric. An overview of some of his most compelling projects, demonstrates how Richard Rogers popularized a flexible, sustainable and public-minded design language for the 21st-century city.” - #richardrogers #architect #lloydsoflondon #TheMillenniumDome #NationalAssemblyforWales #TheLeadenhallBuilding #Pompidou by @jumaarchitecturalinc
