‼️PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT‼️We have a new Juneteenth Flag!!! Over the last few months @juneteenthhouston facilitated a statewide campaign for a new Juneteenth Flag. One that was Texas based, centered Black Texans, and reflected iconography that was uniquely Texan. Out of more than 80 submissions, 6 finalists were selected. Your votes along with the votes and feedback from a distinguished panel of judges helped decide the winning design. On Friday, at 4pm on the Blessings Stage at Emancipation Park we will unveil the flag live!!! Then join us Saturday at 12pm at Sam Houston Park where we will raise the flag for the first time in history!!! Flags will be available for free and for purchase at both events. Juneteenth Weekend is here and we have a few events to round out your Juneteenth celebrations. Here’s the rundown. 6/1911am-4pm | The Red Foods Cookoff and the Spades Tournament are happening at the Eldorado Ballroom. Taste all 8 bites from competing chefs for $5. The winning chef receives a $500 cash prize and Registration for the Spades Tournament is free and the winning team receives $250 cash prize! Sign-Up for both on our website. Links are also in our bio. 3pm | Meet Amechi Ugwu, the artist behind this year’s public art activation. Learn about the piece and take a moment home with you. 4pm | Meet us at the Blessings Stage at Emancipation Park for the unveiling of the Texas-Based Juneteenth Flag6/208-10am | Meet us at Harris County Administration Building as we join Precinct 4 for the concept design reveal and lynch markers unveiling in honor of our resilience and ongoing fight for freedom. 12pm | THE OFFICIAL JUNETEENTH FLAG RASINING! We and many of our JuneteenthHouston colleagues attended a special presentation by former journalist, Carlton Houston, who shared his 🧬 genealogical journey about his noble grandfather who was a surgeon and Houston’s medical community history.Find YOUR roots this Friday with the Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society (AAHGS) – Willie Lee Gay H-Town Chapter at 1100 Bagby Street from 10 AM - 3 PM.
