”Irrelplaceable Filter“

Stainless, Glass, Resin
700*700*1270 (mm)

The Irreplaceable Filter aims to show how easily people fall into superstition and pseudoscience by using the visual elements of hexagonal water and mineral springs, and at the same time, it aims to think about the cultural and psychological implications of superstition and pseudoscience. The hexagonal glass plates that hold water and the common water pipes in mineral springs are not just visual devices, but also symbols of objects that we easily give faith to. Through this work, I ask the question:

“Why do we easily believe in superstitions that lack scientific evidence?”

“Can you find comfort and stability in superstition while still confronting the hidden issues it entails?”

"Dopa" 👾

Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Woofer, Screen, Acrylic
313*750*1825 (mm)

Dopa is an artificial creature, which consists of a monitor connected to an artificial skeleton and a woofer unit, but there is no camera to see the other person or a microphone that can listen. It is a one-way existence with only output without any input with a structure that can only be transmitted. In particular, instead of a general speaker, the woofer was used to maximize the smartphone notification sound and vibration. When you approach this sound, all that remains at the end is the emptiness. No matter how noisy it is, it contains the charm of the digital world that is hollow without substance. At this point, Dopa is not just an interesting being who follows us, but a friend who is hollow akin to social media.

Dopa visually reveals the "excess of stimulation" and the resulting addiction in modern society, making us look back on the problem of digital addictions. But, this friend who only talks about himself. Isn't there at least one person around us who just keeps talking and doesn't care about our reaction?! Whether it's a smartphone, Dopa, real friends, or ourselves, it makes us wonder if we should end up cutting off this recurring notification.

Starting with Dutch Design Week 2026, Huis Saai begins a journey exploring the shape of life through everyday actions. The first point of departure is ‘Lean On’. What does it mean for us to lean on something? And what might we discover when we quietly and closely observe actions that seem ordinary and insignificant?

Actions can express our emotional states, while also shaping the relationships we form with people, objects, and spaces through the routines of everyday life. From drinking water and walking to cooking, our everyday actions are intertwined with culture, religion, and deeply personal stories. This exhibition begins with the possibility that, by looking closely at these everyday actions, we may discover loose yet profound connections between things.

Huis Saai collected stories that unfold from the act of ‘leaning on’ the theme of the first issue of our magazine. The exhibition takes one participant’s story as its starting point and translates it into a spatial setting. Objects drawn from the story and the space composed around them become our first attempt to explore the relationships between actions and the home, and between actions and objects.

"Veiloon"

Mixed materials and components
001 - 550x550x1210 (mm)
002 - 650x120x120 (mm)

“Veiloon” reveals how intentions and forms of power quietly gather around the image of a balloon.

We usually see balloons as symbols of freedom and play. But after witnessing North Korea’s trash balloons in person, I realised that something that looks harmless can also carry threat.

Recent cases — including psychological warfare between North and South Korea, discussions about unidentified aerial objects in US airspace, and examples from the Russia–Ukraine war — show that balloons are not just toys or weather tools. They have been used for political purposes. We tend to accept their form before questioning their content, allowing them to carry out political actions while appearing apolitical.

This project consists of two series: Veiloon 001 and Veiloon 002.

Veiloon 001 borrows the structure of a balloon stand you would usually see at an amusement park and reinterprets it as a way to examine power. The balloons are placed on excessive supporting structures and mechanical frames, revealing how many intentions and forms of power can gather around balloon.

Instead of being fully inflated and floating, the balloons hang loosely from the structure. This deliberately weakens the familiar image of balloons as symbols of freedom and play. The lightness and upward movement we normally associate with balloons are removed, exposing the devices and structures that support them. These mechanisms show how the balloon is controlled and maintained by surrounding systems.

While Veiloon 001 focuses on the visible structures that hold the balloon in place, Veiloon 002 shifts attention to the mechanism that sustains it. Borrowing the form of a pump used to inflate party balloons, the work presents a single balloon that slowly inflates and deflates through a mechanical system.

Through this continuous cycle of pressure and release, the work reveals how the balloon is managed and controlled by surrounding systems or structures of power.

In Veiloon, the balloon is no longer a symbol of freedom. It reveals how quietly power has been operating.

excited to present the “Irreplaceable Filter“ at @collectiblefair

For its 9th edition, the Curated Section 2026, curated by @marine.mimouni , journalist & curator (FR), is presented under the theme “ECHOES OF USE”, asking:

Can furniture, as a silent witness to our daily lives, preserve the memory of our usage?

“Days Like This” Collective Shot
at @vanabbehuis 🏡
Feb 2-4, 2026

"Days Like This" invites works that respond to these experiential states: diaristic pieces, atmospheric studies, and intuitive gestures. The theme welcomes interpretations that explore how design emerges from the lived texture of specific moments. Rather than presenting design as detached from daily life, this exhibition embraces its entanglement with ordinary time, with drift, interruption, repetition, and the quiet intensities that make one day feel different from another.
Participants are encouraged to approach the theme personally or conceptually, using the ordinary as a site of reflection and creative potential.

”Extended Barrier“

Mixed materials and components
1500*1500*1000 (mm)

“Extended Barrier” explores how the dam is used for political control and even a weapon.

In Korea, water has become highly politicised because of the division between North and South. When North Korea releases water from its dams, it directly affects the South such as flood and drought. It shows how water isn’t just a natural resource; it can also be used as a kind of pressure. And in response, South Korea keeps building more dams, creating this growing network of artificial barriers.

Inside a dam, the water isn’t part of a natural flow anymore. It’s trapped, and it moves only because pumps and mechanical systems force it to circulate. From the outside the structure looks stable and complete, but inside it depends on all these hidden technologies to maintain an artificial current. By revealing these mechanisms, I’m trying to visualise the logic of control and the subtle violence built into the system.

The installation is made from reconfigured water guns, motor pumps, and pipes. By exposing these components, the work brings those invisible political tensions to the surface and shows how the dam operates as a language of power. In the end, I want viewers to reconsider the dam as something far from neutral — an infrastructure that quietly performs control.

”Unfamiliar Familiarity“ is an interactive installation made of magnetic modules that participants can rearrange and assemble their own forms.

-

This project comes from my childhood memories of the lattice patterns in my grandmother’s house. They felt warm and familiar back then, but later I realised that these patterns were actually part of a strict social hierarchy from the Joseon dynasty. People at that time accepted this hierarchy as something “natural”, and that made me wonder whether we — even today — can ever really step outside the systems we grow up with.

”Unfamiliar Familiarity“ is an interactive installation that reconstructs traditional lattice patterns into modular forms. By placing a single upper-class motif onto a lower-class framework, past authority becomes unstable and fragmentary. As viewers rearrange the modules, the traditional logic breaks apart into glitches. But at the same time, their participation is still limited within the system I designed. That contradiction suggests that, just like the past, we’re still moving inside structures we can’t fully escape. This project asks, through the process of revealing these hidden hierarchies, whether we can truly step outside the systems that shape us.

“Can we ever truly step outside the order we belong to?”
