This past Tuesday, I had an opportunity to feed my soul by attending a conversation hosted by AAF Charlotte on creativity, personal growth and purpose.

The panel featured industry leaders and local heroes who shared their experience of how to navigate career and life while on a creative pursuit.

Beyond what was said, what stayed with me and made a lasting impact was the honesty and generosity on that stage.

Thank you to the panelists (Matt Olin, Rachel Cobb, David “Dae-Lee” Arrington, Lauren Bickerstaff, William McNeely and Eric C. All my 2 1/2 year old daughter wanted for Christmas was pink cupcakes and hand soap.

Don’t ask me why, I don’t have answers.

For two months we kept asking her, wondering if her answer would change.

It didn’t.

So Mrs Claus baked some cupcakes and Santa delivered them on time for a magical Christmas morning.

I’m sure there’s a lesson somewhere here about enjoying the simpler pleasures of life, but this post isn’t about all that.

This is something to hopefully make you smile and give you a nice break from work on this first hump day of the year.

Last year, I had the honor to give a keynote at the City of Monroe, NC Strategic Planning Leadership Retreat.

I was invited by City Manager Mark Watson and Assistant City Manager Lisa Hollowell to share a few words with the City Council.

I talked about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the City and ended with the incredible rebranding story of New York City, which gave birth to the now iconic “I❤️NY.”

It’s always a pleasure and a privilege to be invited but I get even more satisfaction knowing that my words have made a small impact.

Entrepreneurship is a team sport. I’m indebted to those who gave me free game when I was getting started and who pour into me, so it’s always a privilege to be able to give back and support others on the same journey.
