Today’s design inspiration comes from American artist Ed Ruscha.

I went over to Liverpool to check out a small exhibition Tate Liverpool currently have on about his work, and it has some fantastic paintings and photographs on show.

Comparable to the likes of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, I love his own unique take on what could be termed pop art, as well as his use of typeface and words, which brings to mind the work of another favourite of mine - Barbara Kruger.

If you’re planning on going, Tate Liverpool is currently closed for refurbishment but they are in a small space in RIBA North’s offices on Mann Island.

So you’ve finished your track, got it mixed & mastered and completed the artwork - now what?

The next step is to get it distributed to all the key streaming sites, aka DSP’s (Digital Service Providers), such as Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer.

But how do you do that?

The answer is - sign up with a Distributor.

If you have any questions just drop me a DM, I’m happy to help by @junk.fm

Design inspiration: the ‘Polo’ chair by Robin Day.

I absolutely love these chairs, they still look fresh and futuristic today, despite the fact they were designed in 1972!

Music industry roles - artist management

This is a simple overview of one of the most important roles in an artist’s career - their manager.

If you want to be a manager you’ll need to be organised, business minded, happy to deal with all kinds of enquiries, problems and people, but most importantly you should be enthusiastic and have complete belief in the artist you’re representing.

If you’re struggling to come up with the right visual idea / artwork / logo for your music project, sometimes it really pays to walk away, leave it alone for a while and come back to it with fresh eyes.

One act I worked on called Shelter Point had their logo in the typeface for their name all along, we just couldn’t see it.

Try not to overthink these things, give yourself a break and it could be staring you in the face too.

For context - I’ve been working in the music industry for over 20 years, helping people make and release records.

Can’t decide which track to release first, and so are now sat on all your hard work with nothing to show for it?

It’s a common problem.

However, the only way you’re going to start building a fanbase and finding out what they really like, is by releasing your music!

Remember - once you’ve expressed yourself, it’s not really up to you to decide what is good and what isn’t, what will work and what won’t - that’s up to your audience.

So bite the bullet, take that leap of faith, and release that first song - you won’t regret it!

For context, I’ve been working in the music industry for over 20 years, specialising in new music.

If you’d like a chat about your songs and releasing, you can book a call with me via my Linktree 👍 by @junk.fm

It’s time for another track from my Sunday Soothers Spotify playlist (you can access via my Linktree).

This one has real echoes of late night / early morning UK rave tracks and feelings, 6AM sunrise style.

Enjoy!

Another absolute heater for you on a Friday, and if you’re in the UK, we definitely need a bit of heat right now!

Produced by Chad Jackson and Co-produced by the hugely successful Steve Mac (Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris, Sam Smith to name but a few).

It’s got a mad list of samples in it from the likes of Afrikaa Bambaataa & James Brown, Public Enemy, Gangstarr, Bobby Byrd, Kool & The Gang, Soul II Soul and so on!

I mean, take a little piece from each of those names and surely you’re creating a banger…

This inspiration Reel takes a look at Wes Anderson’s film ‘Isle of Dogs’ and the architectural form known as ‘Metabolism’ that inspired a lot of the buildings in it.

It’s a favourite type of architecture for me and one that has had a huge visual influence on films I love. by @junk.fm
