DAYS OF HEAVEN

Out today.

Pride can be a strange and suspicious thing, but we’re very proud of this record. Last January, we holed up in The Meadow with our best boy @hellochrisryan and slowly pieced this thing together. We still recognise the band that released Ready for the House five years ago but Days of Heaven feels like the truest version of who we are.

Reception’s always out of our hands but contentment is ours. And this one’s already brought a lot of it.

Thank you to everyone who helped us shape LP#2 - friends, listeners, golden era snooker, abandoned shops, omnichords and PS-20s, myriad deferred futures and the noise upstairs. And especially Chris, Matthew Barnhart, Pizza Pizza Records, Viaduct, Supercat, and the support of ACNI and CQAF.

We made this one with everything we had. Hope it finds you somewhere good X

introducing Belfast's Junk Drawer for FREAKENDER 2026 - Friday 18th September @ The Old Hairdresser's

Junk Drawer are Brian Coney (bass/keys), Rory Dee (drums/guitar/vocals) and siblings Stevie (vocals/guitar) and Jake Lennox (vocals/guitar/drums). Their second album ‘Days Of Heaven’ (Pizza Pizza Records, 2025) adds new levels of depth and clarity to an already signature sound, which has been termed 'Cosmic Ulster Music'. Following their acclaimed debut album ‘Ready For The House’ and 2022’s crucial stepping-stone EP ‘The Dust Has Come To Stay’, ‘Days of Heaven’ is the product of four crate-digging music lovers with open ears and a genuine open-minded approach in their process. It is also the outworkings of rural Ulster strangeness, the provinces’ many lost futures, and the harmony & discordance of a sibling creative partnership. A potent cocktail.

Recorded at The Meadow in Wicklow with Chris Ryan (Robocobra Quartet, Just Mustard, NewDad), ‘Days Of Heaven’ underlines a new moment for the band - one of deep understanding of each other and a sublime confidence in their craft. This is a band who have reached maturity without losing any of that “early-stuff” magic. The band’s well-worn influences are still to be found; the breeze of sixties West Coast LA, the pink frost of eighties New Zealand to the otherworlds of Zappa and Beefheart. Scratch the surface and the world just below is where the real magic lies. This is the real trick shot of Junk Drawer.

We're writing at length and have some really cool shit to show you. And we'll have news on that shortly enough.
But more immediately, we're crossing the Irish Sea and bringing a little Cosmic Ulster (to the) Scots next month for @freakenderglasgow on its tenth anniversary. We'd love to see some of you there! by @junkdrawerband

What an privilege it was to travel to the UK & USA for a little while & be greeted with such receptive audiences. Hopefully we'll see you again further along

We'll be back soon with some UK/EU dates in the coming months while we work on album 3

Thanks to the long suffering @billsloss for driving & tolerating us, all the promoters, engineers & reps, the American government who can do no wrong in our eyes, @newcolossusfestival for giving us the best experience in nyc

It’s just 2 days before we get on the Stena Line to Stranraer and realise we’ve no hi-hat clutch, so here’s a reminder of our 5 UK shows and 3 shows in NYC at the New Colossus Festival. It’s a bad week to be a car stereo that hates spiritual jazz and 70s Aerosmith.

26th February - The Hug & Pint, Glasgow w/ @Sleepy.Badgers
27th February - Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh w/@hotelmotel.band
28th February - @mood_swings_mcr @ YES Basement, Manchester w/ @biglongsunband, @wyatt__band & @casualsmartband
1st March - Headrow House, Leeds w/ @plonk_band
2nd March - The Shacklewell Arms, London w/ @LeighxArthur & @w_a_z_l_o
4th March - Berlin, NYC @ 12.15pm
6th March - Arlene’s Grocery, NYC @ 3pm
7th March - Piano’s (Showroom), NYC @ 10pm

Shout if you want to hear any particular tunes at a particular show, we’ll do our best. And tell any sounders that might like us to pop along!
