In4mation was putting Hawaii on the streetwear map before most people were paying attention πŸŒ‹ Founded in Hawaii in 2002 by Keith Kanagusuku, Todd Shimabuku, Ryan Arakaki and Jun Jo, In4mation started as a shop built around skate, surf and street culture before developing into the brand we know today. Even the name has meaning: the β€œ4” represents the four founders, while β€œinformation” comes from their goal of giving customers an insider’s perspective on streetwear and bringing hard-to-find products to Hawaii. Their HI logo became instantly recognizable, and their collaborations with Nike SB, Vans, Stüssy, G-Shock, LRG, The Hundreds, Crooks & Castles, DC Shoes and others helped connect Hawaii to the global streetwear conversation. They were also one of the early retailers to carry the Nike SB Hawaii Dunk, which became an important part of Hawaii’s sneaker history. I kept coming across In4mation while researching other brands and eventually realized how much of their work I had already seen growing up without necessarily knowing the story behind it. Looking through their archive now, you can see how much they contributed to the culture. Kaifu River by Masuko Jo. While designing the SS20 Line my time was spent in a small town called Shishikui in Japan which inspired a feeling of peace and balance by the natural elements that surrounded the space. During my time spent there I decided to drive up through the valley that was created by one of Japan’s most beautiful rivers : Kaifu. I took a picture that eventually I had my sister who comes from an art background to create this very piece that felt perfect to the feeling of that time spent. We eventually used this piece and put it on one of my favorite shirts to date. The tranquility tee.
