Best for Last - Last day, last part of our favourite interview of 2025.

Olli Hoare dove deep into the intricacies of social media trolling and mental health. The Australian Record holder in the 1500m and the mile took a strong stance against cyberbullying during his Paris Olympics campaign, where he was subjected to relentless, harsh criticism due to a major injury recovery that already took him off the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. He chose to put his foot down and speak up about how hate and vitriol hiding behind a screen can affect athletes' mental wellbeing. Especially when they need to be at their utmost calm and focused on competition day, with so much at stake. Even more so , if they're in a delicate place. Special mention to Sinead Diver @diversinead another Australian Record holder (till the Valencia Marathon earlier this month). She also got no mercy online in the lead up to Paris 2024.

Let's take this seriously and this mindset into the new year. Remember, folks, for the love of God: Don't be a despicable human being. Be like Olli. Bring it on, 2026. We're ready. Born ready. For the hardest battles.

Speaking of battles... Did you know that his grandfather was World War II veteran Fred Hoare? Now you know.

Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only Maggie Malone (sounds almost like the Irish legendary song character Molly Malone), but throwing javelin amongst the world's best instead of <<crying "cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh">> as the song goes.

She kindly shared a few honest words with us last Summer right before leaving Budapest in an exceptional moment that we truly appreciate. Upwards and forwards, Maggie!

🇳🇴Amalie Iuel🇳🇴 Last race of her career yesterday at the inauguration of the Karsten Warholm Stadium, honouring her friend & teammate as a celebration of life. She announced at the start of the season it would be her last one and wanted to end it with a bang. ⚡
She reflected with us on it in June, right after clocking in her best individual time ever - 54.05.

JR: Personal Best right before finishing your sports career. Are you fostering any regrets?

Amalie: No regrets. Maybe, actually the opposite. I wanted to finish off the season being it my best possible season, because I wanna retire while still being on top. I think it's tempting for athletes to just keep pushing it and pushing it and pushing it. Bit I feel like it is a good time to stop and I get to do other things in life as well.

JR: Mission accomplished, then!

Amalie: If I had had a bad season this year, I would have been tempted to go on another year.

JR: That's when you would've had the regrets...

Amalie: Exactly, yeah.

JR: So this is it, the icing on the cake! 🍰 🎂

JR: What will you miss the most?

Amalie: The people, the relationships I've built with my training group, teammates & these girls on the relay team. It's really been a fun ride and I'm definitely gonna be missing it.
I always had a dream of becoming an athlete when I was little, get to do what I think is the most fun and make that my job. So I got to live that dream and I feel very happy to have been able to do that for so long.

JR: Very grateful, I guess.

Amalie: Yeah, very grateful.

Takk for alt, Amalie!🫶🏼 by @jupiter.reports

Robert Farken finished like a train yesterday in Copenhagen half a second short of the World Record in the road mile! Biggest win of his career to become World Champion in the wildest way. 🏆 Yared Nuguse, leading the entire race, could not hold the grip in the last 100m. Farken Hoare!

Mention of honour to @ollihoare , running beside him as oftentimes. He clocked an Oceania Record.🇦🇺🪃🇳🇿🌏🇳🇷🇦🇸🪃

There is a special sense of freedom to road running. Endless horizons ahead. An air of possibility.

Be proud of your strength, power & endurance on this Viking feat. It's a hilly course. It's tough, but you're tougher. If you can pull through this, you can survive a nuclear war.

Ziyi Yan threw the 2nd furthest javelin in history to start her season and crowned herself winning the Diamond League last night reaching 68.42m. 🗡️ She's 18. 🤯 How on Earth...!??!??

She's industrious, disciplined and surprisingly mature for her age. Humble yet confident, joyful yet down to Earth, keeping her head down and meticulously doing the work. The future of the sport is bright.

This immensely strong young lady shared some of her viewpoints with us in June, when we asked her how she feels about her results and keeping the rest of the field at bay. She views her massive score cards as a reflection of her training & coaches' (photo) roadmap; however, she acknowledged the consistency needed to improve and her focus was showing up and learning from "these older brothers and sisters" and "world-class players".

The Brazilian snatched the 400m hurdles World Record last night in Zürich, held by his closest rival Karsten Warholm for 5 years.

When asked, he told us in June he doesn't give much importance [let alone gloat] to being faster than him, or anyone else for that matter, during this season.

"It feels good, you know. I think to be able to win, to come out of the picture is always nice. It's not just about beating him. It's knowing that, no matter who is in the field, I have the strength, the shape, to come up with the victory. That's something I really, really enjoy.

It's more about being on top of the game than who is there to beat.

Of course, between Karsten, Rai & me there's always that conversation: <<Oh, who's gonna win, who's gonna come 2nd, 3rd...?>> But I think we're all looking for the same thing: to be the champion, to come out of the game as the best one. No matter who is on the track, I want to win."
