The weather apps and the forecast told me to give up on the sky last night. Even the ChatGPT said it was best for me to sleep when I finally woke up early morning to see it. But I didn’t go down that easily!!

Two hours of playing hide-and-seek with a stubborn sky paid off. I missed the alignment, but blending two different exposures captured something even better: a crisp, bright crescent, a gorgeous glow of earthshine, and a wispy blue veil that looks exactly like a deep-space nebula.

Stubbornness always pays off in astrophotography. 🌙✨

🌙🔴 The Moon meets the Red Planet!

Sometimes, capturing a beautiful astronomical moment takes more than simply pointing a telescope towards the sky.

Join me behind the scenes as I assemble my SeeStar S30 Pro, search the night sky, and finally capture the Moon and Mars together!

From the telescope setup to the final photograph, every step brings us closer to this remarkable celestial pairing.

Two celestial worlds. One remarkable encounter. ✨

Happy Halloween from Death and the night sky! #shotoniphone #iphonephotography #nightsky #spookyseason by @jupiterobserves

$A pristine telescopic capture of tonight’s magnificent lunar corona. The complex diffraction rings reveal incredible structural details in the atmosphere... ...until the perspective shifts, and the shadows take over. 👁️💀 Happy Halloween! For the first time ever, a look behind the mask. While the Grim Reaper has been my silent appearance on this night for years, I wanted to share it here to bridge my love for astronomy with pure cosmic horror. By rotating the telescopic data 90 degrees and deepening the contrast, a peaceful atmospheric phenomenon turns into a menacing, watchful eye staring out from the deep void, timed to snap exactly with The Conjuring theme. Trust nothing you see in the dark tonight. Safe travels in the shadows. #lunarcorona #cosmichorror #theconjuring #grimreaper #astrophotography by @jupiterobserves$

You might think this full moon video looks pretty, until you realize how hard it is to actually catch this on camera. 🌕⚡️

What you’re looking at is a pristine view of the lunar surface surrounded by a vibrant atmospheric halo. To capture this without blowing out the bright details of the moon or losing the soft purple and blue tones of the glowing night sky takes precise exposure work.

It’s the ultimate contrast between razor-sharp space rocks and a dreamy atmospheric mist.

Let’s settle this in the comments: Does the vibrant blue glow make this look like a cinematic sci-fi movie scene, or do you prefer the classic, completely black space background? Drop your vote below! 👇

A once-in-a-million cosmic intercept... ☄️🤯

I was tracking the Triangulum Galaxy (M33) at 4:25 AM when this blazing green streak sliced right through my telescope’s lens. At first glance, it looks like a standard satellite photobombing the frame. But here is why that’s physically impossible! 🛰️❌

At 4:25 AM, the Sun was buried so deep below the horizon that Earth was casting a massive shadow over 1,100 kilometers high into space. Any satellite passing overhead was completely blocked from the Sun—meaning they were sitting in total, pitch-black darkness and couldn’t reflect any light down to us! 🌑❌

Because this plasma trail glows bright electric green and slashes continuously across the entire frame, it proves it was a genuine, self-illuminating piece of ancient comet debris smashing into our atmosphere at hyper-velocity! 🌠💚

Andromeda like you’ve never seen her before... 🫨🔥

I promised I’d share my latest deep-sky target, and I wanted to push the processing data to its absolute limit to reveal the hidden structure of our closest galactic neighbor (M31)! 🔭✨

By pulling out the deeper color data and enhancing the contrast, the massive interstellar dust lanes that twist around Andromeda’s core completely pop in these fiery, electric hues. It shows a whole new side to a galaxy that sits 2.5 million light-years away, surrounded by a sea of billions of background stars. 💫🌌

Drop a 🔥 if you love seeing deep-sky objects pushed to their absolute limits!

Stepping into the hills to look at three completely different scales of reality. 🌌🔭

Tonight, I wanted to map out a massive perspective shift, zooming from our local backyard out into the deep cosmos.

📍 Slide 1 & 2: The Local View (~20 Kilometers)
A layer of low fog rolling over the San Francisco waterfront, framing the glowing lights of the SkyStar Wheel at Fisherman’s Wharf. (In the video loop, you can actually see the ground heat turbulence rising off the distant city!). Captured from the Foothill dorms.

🪐 Slide 3: The Planetary Neighborhood (~100 Million Kilometers)
If you zoom in on that bright point in the twilight sky, it isn’t the Moon. It’s Venus. Because it orbits inside Earth’s path, it goes through phases just like our moon. I managed to resolve its sharp, slender crescent shape right as it set behind the city.

🌌 Slide 4: The Deep Universe (2.5 Million Light-Years)
Saturn had its opposition peak earlier this week, but tonight finally belongs to our closest galaxy, the Andromeda Galaxy (M31). This data was captured during a clear night out at Granite Bay to escape the campus light pollution. The light hitting my telescope sensor tonight left those trillion stars when early hominids were first walking the Earth.

It’s wild to think about the people down at the entertainment wheel looking at the city lights, completely unaware of the massive cosmic theater spinning right above them.

Which distance scale blows your mind the most? Let me know in the comments below!🪐👇

I can’t believe this actually worked... 🤯🌙🪐
(Landscape view! Turn your phone COUNTERCLOCKWISE sideways to see the true horizon perspective 📱🔄)

Most people would look outside, see a narrow view, and just go back to bed. But I am NOT like that. I’ve been tracking the changing dance between the Moon and Jupiter for months, and the results were worth every early morning.

🌌 Slide 1: A precise 1° scale dawn composite from this morning. Because my SeeStar S50 telescope’s frame was too narrow to fit them natively, I captured individual exposures at the exact same moment and stitched them together sideways to bring out the glowing “earthshine” on the dark side of the Moon!

☀️ Slide 2: A lucky, unedited single frame captured in broad daylight back in September! The alignment was so tight that both objects squeezed perfectly into the lens at the same time!

🔭 Slide 3: A close-up crop zooming in on Jupiter from this morning’s data. If your screen is sideways, you can clearly see its four largest Galilean moons perfectly lined up in deep space!
Swipe through to see how much the cosmos changes in just a few weeks! 👉

Saturn has approached its closest point to Earth and now its rings are pure white!! 🪐✨

The photo shows Saturn captured just last night (October 4th), with my Celestron NexStar 8SE, and its rings opening back up. The white rings are being directly illuminated by sunlight, with trillions of ice particles reflecting that light straight back to Earth from more than 700 million miles away (over 1 billion kilometers)!

Saturn is currently approaching its closest point to Earth and now its rings are pure white!! 🪐✨

The first photo is Saturn captured on the night of September 26th - 27th, with its rings wide open, and the Cassini Division showing a little bit. The white rings are now being directly illuminated by sunlight and the ice particles on Saturn’s rings are reflecting it back to Earth from more than 700 million miles away from Earth (or more than 1 billion kilometers away)!

The second photo is even more rare, as it shows Saturn’s rings being aligned with the Earth, and razor thin. This phenomenon only repeats once every 15 years since Saturn takes around 30 years to orbit the Sun. And you may noticed a small smudge on the North of Saturn. Its largest moon Titan was casting a shadow and transiting the ringed giant at around the same time when Saturn was closest to Earth! Making the shadow visible just up the top right of Titan.

Viewing Saturn’s closest approach is really breathtaking, as it allows for a gorgeous view of the rings! I hope to capture more photos of this beautiful planet as it reaches its closest point to us this week!

Comment below with 🪐 if you like the first photo or ✨ for the second one. Share this post with others, and ask any questions you may have. I will gladly answer them for you!

I captured TWO AMAZING ASTRONOMICAL PHENOMENA happening exactly TONIGHT!!

The first one is the beautiful Harvest Moon. It is called the Harvest Moon because farmer’s typically rely on the Moon cycles to pick up the crops from their farms that they had spent time growing. And usually happens in September to October! And the Moon has hidden detail on it. It is not just white and grey. It is actually a beautiful object with hints of orange, blue, and brown that the human eye cannot see alone, but a camera can!!

The second one is Neptune at its opposition! It simply means that the ice giant is at its closest point to the Earth for this point in the year. Although it just looks like a dot from our perspective since it is so far away, Neptune has some features that are fascinating! It is the windiest planet in the solar system with wind speeds that are so fast that they break the sound barrier!! And it has rings, as well as 16 known Moons! The largest being Triton, which actually orbits Neptune backwards compared to the others! So, despite it looking like a blue dot, it is a very interesting world from far away.

Comment down below if you are with the Moon with 🌕 or Neptune with 🔵 and why.

Feel free to ask any questions!
