Hiii friends!!!
•
Last Saturday was the ROARsome opening of the Rock Fossils on Tour exhibition at the Sauriermuseum Aathal 🦖🤘🏻
•
Since 2013, this exhibition has been bringing together two worlds: paleontology and rock music! 🎸
It features newly discovered fossils named after rock legends, combining science, dinosaurs and rock ’n’ roll in such a unique way.
•
What a night and what a fantastic atmosphere! 😮‍💨🙌🏼 It was an absolute blast, and if you get the chance to visit, DO IT! It’s so worth it 🔥
•
Thank you to @sauriermuseumaathal for having me ♥️ it was so much fun!!

SEA LILIES 🪷
•
Sea lilies, echinoderms related to sea urchins and starfish, still exist today. They normally live on the seafloor.
That wasn’t possible in the Posidonia Shale Sea, keyword: “dead zone.”
Like some bivalves that normally also live on the seafloor (→ 6.3), the sea lilies therefore attached themselves in large colonies to drifting tree trunks. The flower-like crowns of the animals hung down from stems up to 20 metres long.
•
With fine appendages on their crown arms, the sea lilies caught plankton.
Like plankton, sea lilies and bivalves attached to their “floating aid” are at the mercy of waves and currents. Such passively drifting organisms are referred to as “pseudoplankton.”
•
Would you find sea lilies interesting to study as fossils? 🪷

Back with two absolute Jurassic legends at @sauriermuseumaathal 🙌🏼
•
On the left: Big Al Two, the ultimate rockstar predator of the Jurassic 🦖 An Allosaurus jimmadseni with around 95% of his original bones still in place. At 7.6 m long and with more than 20 injuries, his skeleton tells a pretty wild story of fights, injuries, healing and survival.
•
And then there’s E.T., the “Dancing Queen” Camarasaurus! 🦕 You can find the complete original skeleton in the Panorama Hall, while the impressive skull is showcased in the Skull Gallery.
•
I’ll never get tired of looking at these fossils 💚They’re pieces of a world that existed 150 million years ago 🥹🦴

Happy fossil friyay, friends!! 😍
•
The Tyrannosaurus rex 🦖, meaning “tyrant lizard,” was one of the most famous carnivorous dinosaurs of the Late Cretaceous period. It lived approximately 70 to 65 million years ago in what is now Montana, USA.
T. rex was a saurischian dinosaur & a large carnivore. It belonged to a group of predatory dinosaurs known as carnosaurs. With an estimated weight of around 6 tons, it was a powerful predator with a large skull, strong jaws & massive teeth 🙌🏼
•
The specimen displayed at the @senckenbergworld museum is a replica. The original is housed at the @amnh in New York, USA.
•
This replica was presented to the Senckenberg Museum in 1991 as a gift from BHF-Bank on the occasion of the 70th birthday of Dr. Hanns Christian Schroeder-Hohenwart, honorary president of the Senckenberg Natural Research Society.
•
Have you ever been to the Senckenberg Museum or the American Museum of Natural History?👀

Hiii y’all!! Look at this giant AMMONITE 🦑
•
This is officially the largest known ammonite in Earth’s history! 😳
While most ammonites were only 1 to 30 cm small, this giant is truly unique. Scientists still wonder what a creature this size ate 🤔 maybe plankton, small crabs or it was a predator?
•
What is certain, they went extinct 66 million years ago and today help us understand our planet’s history as vital index fossils.
•
🔬 Good to know: Since there is only one original 3.5-ton fossil in the world (kept safely in Münster), major museums worldwide use these stunning, high-quality replicas so we can all experience its massive size up close! 🏛️✨
•
Species: Parapuzosia seppenradensis
Age: ~72 million years old
Size: 1.80 meters in diameter! 👀
Found in: Seppenrade, Germany
