Today may not hold the same significance or joy as it once did. Its arrival each year serves as a reminder of that and just how much things have actually changed. It's always looming in my mind. Some years I'll avoid it, closing the blinds and turning myself off to the world while others have been filled with unforgettable experiences and adventure. This year I feel I’ve landed in the middle. I miss you deeply and as many do, wonder what life would be like if you were still around to point a shotgun straight at my face for the sake of an early Instagram picture (many probably don’t wonder the latter but you get my drift). It can be crippling to think too far into the “what if”, especially when one person has had so much influence on you. I fish because of you. I play guitar because of you. I skate because of you (although that’s getting harder, I still push to the mailbox now and again). I’m everything I am because of you. Quite the identity crisis I’ve had while you’ve been gone. I say I’ve landed in the middle today because for the first time in my life, I feel really good about the life I am building, and it feels adventurous. So to acknowledge the silver lining in it all, I’m grateful you forced me to become a man for myself. To work hard and create new facets of my identity. To forge my own path and learn to navigate life without you to fall back on. I miss you dearly, but oh how I can’t wait to see you again, more. Happy birthday brother bear! 🙏🏼🫡 by @jusdyln
