New Hampshire, you really know how to show off in the fall.

No van for this trip, but plenty of adventure and time with family. From the beautiful Sunapee Valley to the Connecticut River, we explored some of New Hampshire’s best, hit the trails, and soaked up those incredible fall colors. Sharing days like these with family makes them even more special.

The highlight? Austyn conquered her first 2,900-foot hike! So proud of her for taking on the climb. Apparently, our version of family bonding involves heading uphill and calling it a good time.

Beautiful views, fresh air, and memories we’ll be talking about long after our legs recover. New Hampshire Fall 2026—you’ve been pretty hard to beat. taken in Cornish NH by @just_simple_pat

Acadia, continued.

One post wasn’t going to do this place justice.

There’s something special about Acadia—the ocean, the rocky shoreline, and the way the mountains rise above it all. These photos capture pieces of it, but they don’t quite capture how it feels to be there.

Wrapping up our cross-country trip here with Tracy made it even more meaningful. So many miles and memories, ending in a place that already has us wanting to come back.

We can’t wait to return and spend more time exploring. Next time, I’ll try to take fewer photos. Tracy should probably get that promise in writing—and absolutely should not believe it. taken in Acadia National Park, Maine by @just_simple_pat

Acadia, part one.

The last stop on our cross-country van trip from Colorado, and what a place to finish. Acadia will always be special to Tracy and me for being the final chapter of this adventure—but this park could steal the show all on its own.

The rugged coastline, granite mountains, and forests meeting the Atlantic are absolutely stunning. It’s the kind of beauty that makes you want to slow down and take it all in.

Apparently, it also makes you completely incapable of choosing just a few photos. Nineteen made the cut, and I’m calling that self-control.

There’s more to share from this incredible place…

To be continued. taken in Acadia National Park, Maine by @just_simple_pat

Tracy and I took the van through Kentucky for a little underground exploring, American history, and time along the Green River. Pretty solid combination for a road trip.

Mammoth Cave was incredible. It’s the world’s longest known cave system, and seeing the size of those passages makes you wonder what else is hiding beneath your feet. With Tracy’s love of caverns, this stop was an easy choice.

It also rained the entire three days we were there—right up until the day we left. Apparently, good weather was reserved for the next guests. At least we picked an attraction with a pretty substantial roof.

We also visited Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace near Hodgenville. There’s something powerful about seeing where our 16th president’s story began—such humble beginnings, followed by a life that helped shape our country. A stop that gives you plenty to think about as you head back down the road.

The beautiful Green River rounded out our Kentucky travels with a chance to slow down and enjoy the scenery. Another stretch of van life with Tracy that I’m grateful we got to share. Beautiful places, good company, and a very thorough test of the van’s waterproofing. taken in Mammoth Cave National Park by @just_simple_pat

Tracy and I took the van to Gettysburg and Antietam. I’ve visited several times, but each trip is emotional. Standing on these grounds, I think about the lives lost, the families changed forever, and the dark chapter of our country’s history they hold.

I’m grateful we could walk these places together and take time to reflect. No matter how many times I return, I leave with the same feeling: we must keep remembering what happened here and the human cost of the Civil War. We should never forget. taken in Antietam National Battlefield by @just_simple_pat

National Park #17: New River Gorge, West Virginia.

The van brought us to some incredible views, but this place has a story that goes well beyond the scenery. Railroads and coal mining towns helped shape the gorge in the 1800s, and you can still see pieces of that history throughout the park. Then there’s the New River Gorge Bridge, which opened in 1977 and towers 876 feet above the river. I admired it from a comfortable distance, where my knees could remain fully cooperative.

Between the river, the forest, and those sweeping views, New River Gorge earned its spot on our national park list. The van travels continue... taken in New River Gorge National Park by @just_simple_pat

🤐 We’ve been keeping a secret.

And if you know ANYTHING about us... you know that keeping quiet about something we’re excited about is… well...not exactly our strength. 👀

😅But we managed. For YEARS.

 Today, the secret’s out.

Meet TRAX FieldOps.

We will let the video do the talking.

What hidden gems in Alabama and northwest Georgia. Russell Cave National Monument and Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park gave us two beautiful landscapes with very different stories.

At Russell Cave, the wooded setting and limestone cave entrance invite you to slow down. People used this shelter for thousands of years, and standing there makes that history feel close.

Chickamauga and Chattanooga is just as moving. Its forests and mountain views are beautiful, but the landscape also holds the history of battles fought there during the Civil War. Walking through it, I found myself taking in the scenery and thinking about what happened on that ground.

These are places I’m glad we made time to see. The natural beauty stays with you, and so do the stories. by @just_simple_pat

Another stop on our van travels: Watson Mill Bridge State Park—and this place deserves a lot more attention. It may be one of the most underrated state parks in Georgia, with peaceful wooded trails, beautiful river views, and Georgia’s longest covered bridge still in use. Built in 1885, the 229-foot bridge stretches across the South Fork River and gives the entire park its historic charm.

We knocked out an awesome five-mile loop and apparently upgraded our hike to the Copperhead Safari Package—we spotted about four of them along the trail. So, enjoy the scenery, appreciate the history, and keep your eyes on the ground…or hike behind someone braver.

Watson Mill Bridge was another great van-trip stop and a reminder that some of Georgia’s best parks are hiding in plain sight. @gastateparks taken in Watson Mill Bridge State Park by @just_simple_pat

Tracy and I visited the Grand Canyon during our late-spring van travels, and it was absolutely amazing. No photograph can truly capture the scale of this place—you have to stand at the edge and wonder how the Colorado River managed to dig such an enormous hole without a permit.

This marked our 19th national park together, and we’re already scheduled to return for another full week. Fingers crossed that we get the opportunity to hike to the bottom and stay overnight. Going down sounds incredible; I’m just trying not to think too much about the climb back up!
