As we head into another high school basketball season, I pray for peace, focus, and the strength to keep pouring into these young men.When your purpose drives you, what you do becomes second nature but the outside noise, negativity, and unseen battles that surround the game can wear even the most passionate coaches down. Still, every season is a reminder that this calling is bigger than wins and losses.I’m blessed to have the opportunity to mentor, teach, and guide young men who’ve chosen to embark on this journey called basketball. Though this path can be short-lived, the lessons like discipline, teamwork, humility, resilience last forever.My hope is that during our time together I can make an impact that reaches beyond the court that can help them believe in themselves, find their purpose, and chase their dreams relentlessly.Here’s to another season of growth, faith, and purpose — one practice, one game, one life at a time. 🏀🤞🏾🙏🏾💜📸 @jerrykellysports_photography by @justball_hoops

Help us Welcome Coach Lonnie Bennett to California Gold. He will be directing our year-around youth camps, and acting as lead coach for our Skills Clinics. He also assists on our 17U 3Stripes Gold team. Coach Lonnie Bennett brings two decades of experience in building champions—on and off the court.From college-level player development to over 12 years of leading youth and high school athletes, Coach Lonnie is known for turning potential into performance.Teamwork. Another year around the sun. Another year to smash all goals. Most young black males don’t make it this far. Especially the ones who grew up where I did. 34 was tough but 35 will be the year I reap all rewards for my prior sacrifice. Here’s some things I’ve learned alone the way that I’d love to share with you all. Learn from your mistakes and don’t focus on them too long. Improve at your weakness and sharpen your strengths. Stay ready so you don’t have to scramble around and potentially lose out on the opportunity of a lifetime. Stand on your morals and principles so no one can ever compromise those. Lastly, live life with no regrets and do not allow others to determine what you feel is happiness or success so trust your gut and move to your own beat! by @justball_hoops
