Morgan DeBaun said it on The Breakfast Club: in this market, calling yourself a Black tech company might actually hurt you. Multicultural dollars are harder to get, DEI titles are getting cut, and John Graham is still processing that take.

His response: the money from Black funders is there, it's just not being deployed into Black-owned businesses built for Black community. After 11 months of pitching, he knows exactly what Upfront needs: investors who've backed multiple pre-seed companies, who are patient with first-time founders, and who want to put capital behind something unapologetically Black-owned and Black-built.
