It was a great trip to the show me state! We definetly got the full experience that the Midwest has to offer. Tornados, giant hail, thunderstorms, sunshine, whipporwills, lightning bugs, box turtles, fishing, amazing camp food, beautiful country, great friends and hard gobbling Eastern turkeys.

The mission was to lend a hand to my sister-in-law on her first turkey hunt. After a couple days of hunting, and showing her the ropes. We called in a beast of an Eastern gobbler. When the tips of his fan crested over the ridge in front of us he was around 20 yards. Paula and I were sitting next to each other at the same tree and she instantly started to shake when he came into view. His hens walked past us just a few feet away and I yelped and cutt at him to try and get him to stretch his head up out of full strut. He gobbled straight at us and continued strutting in our direction. I was trying to keep her calm and coach through the shot but my own excitement and encouragement to shoot, wasn't helping any. I cutt at him again in an attempt to get him to break strut and he gobbled right in our face at about 12 yards. I know darn well my hat lifted a bit with that gobble. Not only was Paula shaking but so was I at this point! I was trying to keep her calm and coach her through the shot but she was having some type of out of body experience, and her gun barrel was literally doing 6" circles as the adrenaline cursed through her veins. Anyone that has had an Eastern long beard in the hardwoods gobble in your face at that distance knows exactly what I'm talking about. That ole boy lived to see another day but the experience we had was as good as it gets. It was exactly what I was praying for and she definitely has a better understanding of why I dedicate so much time to chasing these amazing birds around the country.

She connected with a beautiful bird the next day under a little calmer conditions. We had a great time celebrating her fist turkey in a town with the same name as their grandfather. There is nothing I enjoy more in the turkey woods, than helping a new hunter. I am truly blessed to share my passion especially with family. by @justindoor4

The first western state to open for Saralyn and I was a blast! I was introduced to a young man who lost his father two years ago. He was interested in going turkey hunting and needed a mentor. I dont believe our paths crossed by chance. Clearly someone from above had a hand in our time together. We had an absolute text book, perfect experience. It was a pleasure to lend a hand on his first ever hunt and first turkey. That ole longbeard put on quite a show for him! Our local NWTF Banquet was super fun last night. One of my youth mentor hunters received a scholarship and I snapped a photo of notes from her acceptance speech. It was a great reminder how important it is to take the time to share the outdoors with today's youth. Our time in the spring woods years ago clearly made a positive impact on her life. A very rewarding feeling knowing that she now volunteers her time at youth organizations.

Our state chapter president Richard Mann hand made a beautiful box call for me in recognition of completing the US Super Slam last spring. What an awesome and generous surprise. Thanks Rich!

Thank you to all who volunteer their time to make our local banquet a success.

The NWTF convention in Nashville placed me into full blown turkey mode. Reminiscing of past hunts with old friends, swapping turkey stories with new friends, along with all the calling etc., at the show definitely gets my mind looking forward to spring. Of course, it doesn’t take a great deal of coaxing for me. Thank God there is just a few days remaining until my season kicks off! @chasing_49 @official_nwtf by @justindoor4

Exploring new territory in the home state for the last few days of the season. The wild flowers are spectacular in the higher elevations. The temperatures are rising, soon the lush foliage of spring will be gone, and the long wait to enjoy the spring woods again will begin.
