about five months ago i fell in love with rosalía’s beautiful album LUX: a virtuosic, visionary piece of pop art that married the sacred and profane, the divine and the deeply human. it resonated with me in myriad ways i’m still unraveling.

the album opens with the question:
“quién pudiera vivir entre los dos?”
“who could live between the two?”

my last few months in new york, i careened between intense gratitude and deep grief every day. how to live between the two? it felt like i was trapped between a life that was dying and one that hadn’t yet been born.

LUX became the soundtrack of my morning showers and sleepless nights. it was my inspiration / my anchor / my refuge amidst uncertainty.

and rosalía, my patron saint of duality. a generational vocalist who expanded and affirmed my understanding of singing as spiritual practice.

treating myself to her live performance (twice) was meant to lovingly close this chapter; instead, back home, in the birthplace of LUX, it reignited everything.

“but there will be fires that / you won’t be able to put out”
